[AC] Raiden Fighters Jet - TLB ALL Clear - 130,643,564 (Ixion Slave)

Raiden Fighters Jet came out in arcades in 1998 and was the third and last game in the Raiden Fighters series. It was made by Seibu Kaihatsu, the same guys that made the Raiden series.
Even though it has Raiden in the name, it really has nothing at all to do with Raiden in terms of gameplay. It was originally a new IP called Gun Dogs, but Seibu changed the name to be part of the Raiden series since it gathered more attention that way.
The Raiden Fighters games are all incredibly good games, I easily find them some of the best shmups ever made. The stages are all incredibly condensed with constant new and cool stuff to do while you zip all over the screen at super high speeds. Almost no dead air or repeated things, the game moves forward like a roller coaster. The music also perfectly encapsulates this. There is so much going on that it's basically impossible to explain everything in real-time.
Jet added a couple of new things to the Raiden Fighters formula.
The game now has non-linear stage progression. How well you play affects what stage you will be sent to after you complete it. Another big thing is that secret bonuses now get multiplied based on how quickly you uncover them in succession, which adds another layer of depth to the scoring as well as make it way harder.

TLB requirements:
- Rank well enough to reach the Real Battle stages.
- Don't die on Real Battle Phase 1.
- Beat Real Battle Phase 2 without using a continue.
The game has a crazy amount of ships and every ship also has a Slave variant.
The Judge Spear Slave is probably the best Slave ship, it's very fast and has a very strong bomb. It's one of the best ships for scoring, but the speed is very hard to control. The Ixion Slave is a good compromise, it has more controllable speed but the bomb is weaker, which makes some of the setups harder to execute.
Slaves have their ups and down sides. They are easier to use since they have a smaller hitbox and you don't have to worry about weapon switching, but the smaller hitbox makes it harder to graze and pick up medals, which is bad for scoring.
Scoring in these games can be categorized in a couple of main categories:
- Medaling.
- Uncovering secrets (and chaining them in Jet).
- Grazing.
The medal system is very weird and complicated so I suggest just reading the guide for how they work. But the main gist of it is that you max out their value in stage 1 and then never worry about them again. Stage 1 basically has a completely separate scoring system over the rest of the game if you do this. Medal value drops when one drops off the screen.
Grazing is really hard in these games with the ship being so fast and the graze hitboxes being so small. But you can graze bullets continuously in this at least.
Scoring is very difficult but the survival isn't easy either.
Something that adds to this is that there are zero extends in this. You only get the two extra lives you start with and that's it. Not that it really matters since you need to no-miss most of the game anyway for the TLB requirements.
Run from the Calice Cup tournament from like 8 months ago. Wanted to do a better run but didn't really get around to it.
I try to do a lot of scoring tricks in this but end up failing most of them, so I don't really recommend copying this if you're going to do that lol.
I do want to go back to this at some point and do a better run though.
One trick I noticed is that the last phase of the last boss has less HP if you time out the first phase. Which lets you kill the boss before the final pattern gets really hard.

The slave Type on this game is some of the most unbelievably FAST moving ships on any Shmup. Pair that with the usual Raiden shenanigans, and you have Yourself a legitimately fun/nightmarish time, depends on who is playing GG on the run, cant wait for the better run soon! Here's to hoping your next run of RFJ you don't use the Slave version of the ship you choose. The Ixion itself is probably one of the best normal ships in the series IMO, so seeing the slave version of it being used is kind of a letdown lol. Either way though, another really good RFJ run.
