bro both are same, the drop in potential can cause a potential difference. If you are not yet in 12th then first you need to learn about electric field, potential difference is defined as work done against the electric field while moving a unit positive charge from one point to another. In a resistor, electric field points in direction of current, so if you move in direction of current, you are moving in direction of electric field (force is applied on charges due to the electric field) so work done against it is not positive, its negative because electric field is helping the charge while moving therefore electric potential drops or reduces in the direction of current in a resistor. Just have a read of first two chapters of 12th physics . you can also first watch this JOKE VIDEO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIS2f3mherKpaJY to get a basic understanding.
