Thank you very very much! I've called AC guy and told him the symptoms of my a.c and this guy told me my a.c compressor is locked and need to change the whole unit will be better. He told me $4500. Man!, I've freaked out and followed your video and fixed it by my self. It was capacitor, it looked fat on the top so I called many HVAC supplies because a lot this companies only sell to licensed contractors. I've just paid $33 and works like champ. Today is June 3, 2020 and much thx from Houston, Texas.

4 years late but this video is timeless. Another satisfied KZbin viewer. Our AC stopped working yesterday. House got up to 90! We were worried we would have to wait until Monday to call for service and then they would probably be so busy. We’d have to wait longer. Watched this video. Signs led to the capacitor. Went to Ace and picked one up for $18. We are back in business. Yeah! 🥶 💨

I used your troubleshooting steps, narrowed it down to the capacitor (complete with the bulged top), found a part locally and did the replacement with the video instructions. My A/C dropped on a hot weekend and all my estimate calls for emergency service were at least $300. I took care of this repair on my own for $25 in parts that same day and my A/C sprang to life. THANK YOU!!!!!

Yeah, I couldn't believe how easy and cheap it was to fix this. The local companies here wanted about $300 also... and I already knew what needed to be replaced. OH, and I would have to pay for the part on top of that. And the part they had was going to be like $40. I got one myself for like $12. At that price I went ahead and got a spare as well. I was expecting to have to do soldering or something else complicated to replace this. Nope, just like the video shows, it's super easy.

@101perspective
@101perspective 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAndriabeshir I got my part on Amazon. The part was made in China but the listing showed it shipping from Amazon and was being sold by a states side company. I got it in just a few days. If you don't trust that process, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc, sells them also... at a slightly higher price. And you will most likely have to buy them from their online store and have them shipped. Btw, even the HVAC company said they would have to order the part if I decided to go with them. All of that said, you might check the company names/addresses on Amazon. One of them might be near you and they might have an actual brick and mortar store you could visit.

@@TheAndriabeshir I have repaired my AC several times. Lowes and Home Depot most of these stores do not carry those components. I buy my contactor and capacitors through Grainger locally. They will sell to a normal customer. What I mean, if your not an AC and Heating contractor, many specialty stores will not sell to you. Grainger will and help you get the right components. You just need the original component part numbers. That info is usually on the components. Hope this helps?

Thank you for including details describing inside fan works but outside unit doesn’t, and the buzzing noise for a few seconds but no starting-this really helped me to pin down the issue so then when I looked at the capacitor and the top was rusted and bubbled up-I knew that was the likely culprit. Like others - I thank you for your knowledge - you saved me a bunch. I called a local A/C contractor just to see if he'd help, nothing except they want a $300 + parts service call. The part cost me $21.00 and 10 minutes to take the capacitor out and check the numbers ordered a new one off Amazon - 3 days later 10 minutes putting it in and the A/C is back up and running great.

Thank you for teaching me how to do this repair. I'm familiar with electricity and it's components but not HVAC. My wife texted me at work that the air stopped blowing cold. When I came home I assesed the situation and then watch your video. I pulled the cap and it was bubbled up on top. I had 15 minutes to drive to my local DIY store. Bought exact replacement for 12 dollars!!!!! Put new cap in and turned the air on....boom cold air blowing and in time for dinner. Wife happy now! Best KZbin DIY video ever!

My first KZbin comment after staring at thousands of vids. Same common story: weather heats up, AC compressor and fan wont go on, wife starts complaining and daughter is (tongue in cheek) making grave threats and me fretting about service call $. A few key strokes land me here. $11.44 Amazon Prime gets me capacitor in 40 hours (Sat night order). 10 minutes outside and cold air is blowing again. Wife is happy and daughter is off the ledge. And I look like the big hero. Chalk one up for the "regular guy". Thanks, man.

This was my EXACT problem today. Knowing nothing about AC repair, I was able to fix my unit for $31. Couple notes - I’m in Phoenix area and it was 109 today so getting this done quickly was necessary. Big box stores - Home Depot and Lowe’s don’t carry the part in my area. Made several calls and most other places will install (with huge service fees) or won’t sell to you if you’re not a contractor. Found a place on my fifth try that had my capacitor in stock. Easy install just make sure to have all power off. I turned the power back on to check it worked before clamping back in the bracket. It did...but then grabbed the capacitor bare handed for a nice surprise. Thankfully didn’t touch any 220. Turned off all power before finishing install, powered up again and house is sitting at 72. Great video thanks!

This 100% worked the very first time. Last night was sitting outside to let the dogs out and I noticed my A/C kicked on but I heard a buzz and the fan didn’t turn on. Immediately got my attention and googled it and found this video and it gave me positive vibes to tackle the issue on my own. Turned the A/C off and disconnected it, opened her up, took a picture of the part and found similar part on google. Found the part I was looking for, ran up to Ace and bought it. Put it in and about 5-10 minutes later turned everything on and it cycled over. Been over an hour and back to normal. Still working! Wahoo!!! Thanks bud!

I’m a handicapped senior citizen. You video was very informative. I might not be able to do the work myself due to physical limitations but I am now more educated as to what to look for. When the repair man comes to take a look at my unit I will be more empowered to ask questions and more importantly to not get ripped off! I don’t begrudge anyone making an acceptable profit. After all, they are in business. However, should I be told my repair will cost $3,000 I am prepared! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I know this is an old video but wanted to say - Thanks so much for posting this! I'm not well versed in HVAC but this made the diagnosis easy to follow, I went and purchased a new Capacitor locally that I probably paid double for ($31) vs ordering on-line ($15) but with high's in the 80's and nasty Humidity I didn't want to wait. I swapped it out and turned the power and AC back on and it was running again! Much to the delight of my 40 weeks pregnant Wife!

You are a credit to the profession. My two story home was nice and cool upstairs, but downstairs was unusually warm, so I removed the downstairs thermostat cover and noticed there wasn’t a jumper between the R and RC terminals. Here is some advise for all of you. Never assume that just because you pulled the disconnect that there is no power. Always test the unit with a multimeter to make sure the voltage is not present. You never know if someone took a shortcut and bypassed the pull out of the disconnect. Trust me, it has happened in the past. Also, do not assume that just because the capacitor is bad that nothing else is. Usually a weak capacitor is caused by excessive wear from the compressor or condenser fan motor. Even if a capacitor is blown I always put my gauges on the system when it runs to check the refrigerant charge. Just because the suction line gets cold and sweats does not mean that a refrigerant problem is not there. I know that people like to save money and feel they are being “ taken” by service companies but to have a system fully checked on a regular basis, especially if it is getting old, by a legitimate service technician it can help the A/C last longer.

rainbow666ify close, service technician with over 26 years experience so I have seen it all when it comes to individuals thinking that they can fix their own equipment. When it comes to A/Cs knowing a little is dangerous. Most people will not work on electrical systems because they are afraid of getting shocked yet they work on heating and air equipment that is both electrically energized and has high pressure refrigerant in it. So there are just as many failure stories as there are success stories when it comes to mechanical repair. I have made the same mistake myself when it comes to automotive repair and getting advice off of KZbin videos. I have ended up paying more at a repair shop for following so-called experts on line.
