That was my supervisor. She hardly replied my email. Thank God I crossed that bridge. I just went through 4 years of abuse. I saved all the emails.

Prior to engaging with a master's or PhD supervisor, I believe there should be a system in place that catalogues the details of previously supervised students, such as the start and end dates, names, titles, external examiners, individual grades from each examiner, final grade, and a list of publications stemming from the thesis. This information could serve as a valuable resource for identifying less capable supervisors before committing to work with them. In my opinion, a proficient supervisor should adequately prepare PhD students to become the next generation of professors in their respective fields. This preparation can encompass a variety of activities including, but not limited to, encouraging publication in reputable conferences and journals, striving for recognition through awards such as 'best paper' or 'best thesis', teaching relevant subjects with subsequent evaluations, securing funding for new projects, fostering connections with other research groups, professors, and industry-related companies, as well as assisting in the attainment of outstanding postdoctoral positions.

"The feedback loop is broken" makes so much sense. My supervisor has a bad habit of interrupting me when I'm trying to explain my progress. God forbid, we all know it's a work-in-progress and it will never be perfect, but my supervisor gets triggered when something isn't perfect as she expected. I don't understand why they are this way but it's breaking the feedback loop.

I think it varies, based on these metrics my supervisor is quite good with regular weekly meetings. However, there are no opportunities for writing papers or teaching, the average time for a student to complete under his guidance is 5 years as things are unnecessarily prolonged. At PhD level students should be being prepared for an academic career too.

my supervisor replied to my 10 emails in three months, set a date to meet and then left campus. then would not meet me nor would she reply to my emails. I left drafts of chapters monthly at her office for 6 months. Then 10 days before the final submission date, she finally read ALL of my drafts inculding my complete one and then claimed i didnt "chase her down enough", i should have pressured her staff to give her personal number (they wouldnt give it to me) and that she JUST read all the 10 to 11 drafts i had left in her office. so yeah . i met her twice in the whole year in which one, had sceduled our next meeting which she didnt show up for and second, met me to tell me i came too late and my work is not what she would like so i need to take extention(blamed me for not doing better research)

Marek, the audio is not as good as it should be for such a fantastic content, a better mic is needed!

How about supervisors that try to prolong the work (which costs more) and are bureaucratic.
