Academy 1/48 CH-53E Super Stallion Build Part 5: Engines and Sponsons

The Super Stallion build continues. In Part 5, I assemble the Reskit 3D printed air intake assembly to the Academy plastic nacelles, with shocking fit and a disappointment all round!
I also finish assembling the sponsons with some resin Wolfpack additions, getting ready to rivet.
In the next build log for the rotor I will add more wiring to the rotor assembly before moving on to the other main game in town - stressed skin on the fuselage!

Wow , Reskit needs to replace their quality control person ... or , maybe add the position . Good job with it and the rest of the bits , Chris . The copper on the exhausts looks really good .

I think they were just a little too ambitious and need to slowdown a bit? I dunno - room for improvement for sure and this is one of the earlier pieces IIRC

Eye opening. I think I would have just used the original parts after adding some detail to them. Lovely job on the exhaust staining. 👍🏻

Unfortunately I had been cutting around with the original parts to hybridise them before I went too far - I should have just ditched the Reskit to start with....

Looks like a reskit mindfield. I'm glad to see you are still progressing with them, though.. it will only make you better, if not they will end up in the well of tears😂..As always look forward to whats to come and yes i/we are still awiating the F14 bulid.. but when ever that comes it comes..

Gday Chris and " good eye " on the detail, you've got a ribbon winner in the works with all that extra detail. You'll have to get a shirt that says I build detail models and know things" or " Build Models and Stay Calm". That book is indeed an epic reference. I haven't reached the skill level yet for extra accessories, however this series is really helping out understand how they work. BTW I agree with ya on the memory trigger of the word catheter. Thanks mate - yes I've had lots of guys like you come out of the woodwork to help me out - I'm trying to go for some level of accuracy, not total though, I'm not that insane or skilled to get it all right - check out Fancherello for a really skilled helicopter modeller! Cheers Chris

Nothing like doing a bit of experimentation. Only way to learn. I've always heard good things about ResKit but obviously they can be hit and miss.

I've learned a tonne already on this build: A. I'm definitely not good at super detailing. B. I much prefer things that just fit together without fuss and C, I really want to get to painting and weathering!!!

No schedule as such mate, these will just go up when I've collated the videos - I'm trying to get this finished by the end of July, so I am powering ahead! There's also the Revell 1/32 F-14 to finish too...cheers Chris

I’m impressed that you kept on going, it’s a real shame that clearly the reskit guys never tried there parts with this kit. I’d have been reaching for the calipers and just trying to resin print the part myself 😂 I do hope your doing better on the health front

Yes if I was to do this again I would probably redesign the whole thing in 3D - thats definitely a rabbit hole I want to go next year or thereafter...
