Thank you for this review, I was on the fence with this kit, but your review has helped me. I've built Academy's 1/72 saber and its not bad, thank you for sharing.

The F86 is one of my favorite 1950s airplane. This one looks really good. I’ve only built the vintage Monogram Sabre and it was a very gratifying experience. Thank you for providing this very good review.

Hello Jon, excellent description of this kit, in my experience I have been able to build two f86s, a 1:48 Italeri, which although I remember was not that detailed and the landing gear pieces were weak and broke without effort. An Academy 1:72 with the same decals, about the latter I can say that it is a very good kit for that scale, however, the entire assembly process takes the placement of decals and stencils, in any case it is a great result, very nice visually, to put next to a mig 15. I have not built a Hasegawa F86, so I don't know what it would be like in terms of parts and details, the same with the airfix f86, which apparently has very good details. Returning to the Academy kit, it seems to me that despite its very poor pilot seat, with the pilot there is enough coverage, if the pilot is not desired, with scratch it could help if you do not have resin or PE parts to be able to change it. The surface detail, weapons bays and wheel wells seem quite good to me, the engine and its possibility of display are perfect to place next to the Tamiya mig 15. Thank you for your time and being able to appreciate these kits carefully, it helps a lot to have an idea if you buy online, greetings and until the next video.

Thanks, Francisco! I had high hopes for the Airfix F-86, but the surface detailing of both the Academy F-86 and Hasegawa F-86 are so much better (less trench-like). The interior detail of the Airfix F-86 relies completely on decals, and the seat still needs replacing. If you're looking for a realistic replica, the Academy and Hasegawa F-86s are still the best. If you can find the Eduard boxing of the Hasegawa, even better since it has lots of extra goodies ($80+ though!). Cheers!

@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Thanks Jon, I think I saw the Hasegawa saber in the store that I usually buy here in Chile, so I think I'll go for it, greetings

Built this a few years back and yes cockpit seat was not to my liking so I did put the pilot in it. I might get this kit again just for the aftermarket cockpit! Overall It builds up nice. Wish someone would come out with an earlier version F-86 in 1/48. With all the variants I’m surprised this aircraft in this scale doesn’t have any new releases. So many new metallic paints these days to really make it shine!

That looks like a great kit. My last sabre was the old hasegawa 1/32 kit i built as a kid. Jon, your site is inspiring me to get back into building aircraft.

Hi Jon. Just got the Hasagawa from my local shop and an Eduard Cockpit set. Both this and Academy look like nice kits. Down here we'd like a full kit of the CAC Sabre. Australian built version with Rolls Royce Avon and 2 x 30mm Cannons replacing the machine guns. Thanks for the review. 🦘🦘🦘

Right on! Sometimes, scratchbuilding details is the only way to get the version of an aircraft we want to model. I wonder if you can get an Avon engine from another kit or if anyone makes a resin Avon? Cheers!

Another GREAT review… Good Morning from OHIO Because of your review, I would purchase this kit to build… With all the details, and aftermarket accessories, I would display everything as much as possible… But that’s just me… I make notes about the kits you review… when I go to the IPMS shows next year, I’ll have something to refer to… This looks like a great kit to build, definitely use the aftermarket products… I think the canopy is the only negative issue about the whole thing ( have you ever used JOHNSON FLOOR WAX on your canopies ???? ) really helps on the any scratches and clarity of the surface, just a thought????? Anyways, enjoyed watching this, always INFORMATIVE and ENTERTAINING 😊 have a great weekend, everyone wherever you live… CHRIS 🇺🇸

@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Good afternoon friend Jon, without a doubt these are iconic planes. I didn't venture out with these kits because I haven't yet mastered painting aluminum patterns. I prefer camouflage or solid paint kits. But one day I'll get there.

Jon, how do you care for completed models on the shelf, i.e., dusting? Might be a topic for a whole video! LoL
@jonsmodelkitreview4624
@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Жыл бұрын
The best recommendation I have is to buy some inexpensive display cabinets. This cuts the dust to a fraction of what the models get out in the open. When dusting the kits, I use a large, soft paintbrush. I don't add antenna wires because they don't age (or dust) well. Hope that helps!

Is there issues with having the landing gear up so I can hang it
@jonsmodelkitreview4624
@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Жыл бұрын
Great question, Henry! This kit wasn't designed with the gear up option, so you may need to do some additional work to model the gear in the closed position. Cheers!

Hi, which is better model kit, this 1/48 Academy HUFF F-86 or Airfix 1/48 F-86?
@jonsmodelkitreview4624
@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Ай бұрын
@johntemple4570 Based on surface detail alone, the Academy kit is more scale accurate. The panel lines on the Airfix F-86 seem quite overdone in pictures. Interior and clear parts on the Airfix kit are also sub standandard. The two kits may represent two different versions of the F-86 as well. Cheers!
