Being an old guy who has been scale modeling for over 50 years I kinda build like you do in these videos, just an out of the box build is satisfying for me. Wiring, photoetch etc, I just can't do anymore but your videos are very satisfying.

There are times when I do all the after market stuff, but not day to day. I did have a Harrier GR.7 to do one day and I've got all sorts of stuff for that - exposed engine, proper exhausts, proper weapons, cockpit detail with photo etch, etc,., etc., but that's a special one. Something for my few unoccupied hours, not for the channel, because it will take months!

Yeah, the video was late as things have been ambit hectic here in the last week or so. Still, back on track very soon! My experience of US city traffic has never been a good one... almost missed a flight once in LA because it had rained and the whole road network seemed to stop. The only place that I have found alright was DC. But I haven't been over for quite a long time now.

Nice build, Just a note about the ejection seats. Both seats in the kit are ejection seats. You assembled the North American-designed seat that was standard for American, Canadian and JSDAF Sabres. The other seat I think would be a Martin-Baker seat.

Interesting, thank you. I should look into those seats as I’m pretty familiar with MB but not other early types.

Good choice! But then you never know, Les. Having the nose intake as a separate item might (just might) mean the base kit will adapt to the Dog. It seems to be the way of things these days, and a good thing too, that designs are planned with variation in mind, especially in 1/48.

Love the content Gary I must say. Exactly the format most modelers would want it in IMO. Golden rule from a marketing perspective though - have a weeks content ready ahead of time at least to avoid unforeseens causing you a problem. You risk losing subs and attracting new viewers with gaps in the schedule. A lot of us were waiting in this one (not that I’m personally bothered it was late) but some won’t be very forgiving.
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, thanks. Yes, it is a good idea to have one in the bag, but only if I know things are going to go south when Monday Matters is recorded. I'm still trying the new format out, so there will be some changes in the future, and some kits will by their nature need to go over more than one week (like the Italeri Stirling when it arrives). But then, of course, life will always get in the way of model making... But your point is well made - everything was going swimmingly before Xmas and I agreed to have some time off and a whole lot of momentum in the growth of the channel disappeared. So if I'm going on holiday, I make sure I've two weeks' worth of kits ready to drop and the rest I can fill in. I hope! All the best!

@@garys_stuff might I suggest using the "Community tab" here on KZbin, as you should be eligible since you do have over 500 subs. Hi Gary, greetings from Spain and thanks for your videos. After a break of 40 years I have returned to modeling. I think it happens to many of us. One question please: What kind of metallic paint did you use on your model? I think it is very realistic. Thanks again and I will follow you!

@garys_stuff2 ай бұрын
The scheme on the instructions includes 11 Silver, 16 Gold, 19 Gloss red, 33 Matt black, 53 Gunmetal, 64 Matt light grey, 155 Matt olive drab. All of these, of course, are the Humbrol colour references. Other colours in the instructions are 64 light grey matt, 66 Olive drab (but you can use 155), 85 Black satin, 140 Gull grey, 153 insignia red, 226 Interior green. You'll also need some colours for the pilot if you're including one. A colour chart with all the Humbrol numbers is available at: d63oxfkn1m8sf.cloudfront.net/7616/6980/5182/Humbrol_-_Shade_Chart_28-11-22_Online_Version_Web.pdf First thing I do with most kits is go through the instructions and mark up the colour references as I go. Instructions for this kit can be found at Scalemates: www.scalemates.com/products/img/7/9/9/1396799-31-instructions.pdf Colour call-outs are normally on the side of the box, I try to include a shot of them in my reviews even if I don't name them individually.

Lovely build Gary. What paint did you use for your natural aluminium?
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ian. I use the Vallejo system of black gloss primer (77.660) then Metal Color on top. For aircraft I normally use their duraluminium (77.702). Sometimes, like on the Hunter, I might put the Metal Color on a lighter base for the undersides, but generally it's on black.

Lovely as usual :)) did you use alcald 2 for the silver colour.

@@garys_stuff Look, I didn't mean to offend you. I've been watching your videos for a short time, but in the case of this model you missed a few striking details. I'm talking about the nose part of the fuselage. Look at the air intake and connecting the fuselage halves. You can see right away that you skipped the sanding process of this place or did it not thoroughly. And this is obvious in the case of such a machine.
