can someone explain to me why exactly she was listed as supporting role? in my opinion eddie redmayne was the main actor and alicia vikander was the main actress of the movie... both protagonists...

JoDeKeCh Yes I think so as well. I think that's just the way the academy is sorting the categories..

I kinda agree, though I guess in the Academy's categorising, perhaps you can only have one main actor/actress. So they had to put Alicia as supporting since Eddie already had the main spot.

Although Lili is the primary character, she is somewhat selfish and lost. Gerda is the main canon in this movie. It's like Lili is nothing without Gerda that's why we have spot our eyes on Alicia. However, the two had given us a powerful performance. I'm amazed on how Alicia and Eddie supported each other especially on the last. Great actors! I love this movie very much!

I just found this video and I apologize for being so late. Your comment, IMO, hit the nail on the head for one big reason: Only one person is referred to in the dialogue as "that Danish girl" and it's not Redmayne's character. That made me wonder why Alicia was not nominated for best actress and Eddie for best supporting actor. But that was perhaps just me.

Was expecting it to be spectacular because of the trailer, the way it edited got my hopes up. Such a beautiful trailer. I did like it though. Alicia's character was the one that stood out to me the most. She was just so lost . Broke my heart.

The movie is good, but not great. And as much as Eddie tries, unfortunately i did not find entirely him believable in the role. Alicia is the star in this.
