What an awful question " do you think there is a little bit of lilli in all men?" Very disrespectful and contradicting. Eddie handled that question very well.

I like how he responded to the slightly ignorant interviewer. Like, he calls her Lili pre transition even though the interviewer doesn't and small things like that. It's wonderful to hear. The fact he is so educated is refreshing and as a non binary kid, the fact he recognises gender is a spectrum is just wonderful.

It's more just disrespectful and can cause dysphoria for the person. It's like still referring to her using he/him pronouns. It's not her anymore.

I love how very educated Eddie has become on transgender issues and what it is to be transgender both in history and today. I'm especially happy that he talks about the greater struggle of trans women of colour as that is an important and often ignored part of the mainstream discussion of trans issues. I think Eddie Redmayne portrayed this role beautifully and with such amazing understanding and respect. He is really helping to open the doors to the understanding of what it is to be transgender and how to support the trans community the best we, the cis community, can. I think Redmayne is a blessing and not just a phenominal actor but also a truly good person.

Dominic Very little percentage of people are transphobs. People just demand some insane level of support for trans people which is not realistic or fair.
@hinahinananoha77838 жыл бұрын
IsMyNameSam People all over? Any facts please? Sure some killing and discrimination happens, but what left is pushing is insane. Insurance covered transition, children trans, several genders, ton of new pronouns etc. Besides, seeing how much anyone who has smallest question is called homophobe, I doubt most people experience real danger.
@hinahinananoha77838 жыл бұрын
IsMyNameSam I don't owe trans people anything. That seem to be your misunderstanding. I have done a lot of research, which I didn't have to. And if I say that many trans people overreact that is my observation.
@hinahinananoha77838 жыл бұрын
IsMyNameSam I am sure I haven't asked rude questions. Besides, if you are identifying with something as controversial as transgender, you have to have tough skin even for questions that you might find insensitive. As for owing, I don't see people talking all people's rights, mostly minorities, so I guess they don't feel responsibility for humanity?:) I certainly don't feel that. I like to understand and help somewhat, but all humanity?:) No. As for statistics, you seem to be mostly whiny about it, without addressing questions like trans prostitution. Sure many transgender women who are prostitutes get killed or attacked, but so do normal prostitutes. That's why we generally don't recommend such behavior.
@hinahinananoha77838 жыл бұрын
IsMyNameSam Backtracking?:) I suppose you feel you are out of arguments:))) And if you can't even talk honestly about the stupidity of selling your body, especially when you are a transgender, and in many cases lie about it to people who see you as a thing as it is, you are not worth wasting my time anymore. Just try to understand that no one is going to support trans issues more then now while trans people put themselves in danger.
@석민주-b7m7 жыл бұрын
This interview is the reason why I don't simply like him but admire him. He has a very detailed knowledge about status of transgender people-their struggles, discrimination still present- and knows that there's still a lot of work to do, and he admits he was totally ignorant before filming, which isn't an easy thing for most people to do. And like a lot of people mentioned below, he always calls her Lili, meaning he's accepting her as a woman from the start, not a man who turned into a woman. But the most thrilling part for me was when he talked about 'masculine' and 'feminine'-calling these words as 'boxing' terms. It moved me so much that I was on the verge of tears. He's not just a wonderful actor, but a very nice, thoughtful human being.
@tahsat9665 жыл бұрын
Redmayne himself had been attached to the movie since before Les Mis, directors had been trying to get it made for upwards of 15 years. Which may explain why they chose a big actor who could get it publicity rather than a trans actor, along with Eddie already being attached and interested in the role. I admire how much research he did on the subject after it was finally given funding for the film to be made. I seriously respect how he was able to admit how he was ignorant about the trans community before he started doing research on the role, and how (even now) he admits that playing the role as a cis man may not have been the correct thing to do but he still loved it because it was such a learning experience for him. I loved how he reached out to people in the trans community and truly tried to connect with them, even now he still keeps up with trans icons and people in the lgbt community. (Specifically a certain youtuber called Jackson Bird).

Wow. I know there are other better written comments than mine, but I'm impressed with Eddie Redmayne. He is open enough to explain his own thought process when he took the role and learned about this aspect of humanity that he wasn't knowledgeable about before. He saw that the real experiences of trans people were important to portray to the point of influencing the script. He is sensitive to the fact that trans people have an innate feeling of self identity, and that it is unique to the individual. If only everyone were so compassionate.

I love how, though at the time of the film he says he was very uneducated on trans issues and the whole transgender concept, that he seems so understanding of it now. Some people take upwards of 15 or 20 years to grasp the concept and begin behaving in the "appropriate" manner, but it seems as if he caught on quickly, like those people who immediately use the correct pronouns for others when they are corrected.
