Players like Gomes and Fernandez simply wouldn’t have developed at United like they have abroad. Mainoo is dying this season because of how bad we are and he is an elite talent. Gomes and Fernandez would have been swallowed up in this current setup. Angel is available for free and we have a buyback for Fernandez and I would bring both back but letting them leave was not a mistake.

Surly all clubs with successful academies have this. City have let go lavia, porro, ibrahim Diaz, palmer, sancho & Delap now at Ipswich. Chelsea let go solanke, ake, rice, tomori and nketiah, even musiala slipped through their fingers. Looking in hindsight is always great but we aren’t the only club doing this by a long stretch. Mctominay May look good in Italy but we’d seen enough to know he wasn’t good enough in the prem. the key is career paths Utd have to make sure we have them for the brilliant kids coming up and stop getting bogged down with fan favourites and players blocking paths coz the are on huge wages. A bit like the Ajax and Barca method which ETH was suppose to implement but had moved away from.

Well thats not strictly true. We know he's not good enough to be in a team where expectations are ridiculously high, but club is run into the ground. McT is not world class, but he'd do well mid to higher level PL club, and I personally said a few years ago he'd do well in Serie A, all be it in 532 set up.

What jay said a bout the difference between a premier league level talent and a united player is key. we often see moments of brilliance in the academy and think that's better than x first team player but we don't don't account for consistency and just mental aspect of playing for united.

I think most of the criticism people heard about some of these players we let go was: created by rival fans, propagated by the media, and then eventually; spewed out by our own impressionable young fanbase. McTominay, Fred, Smalling, and Blind were all perfectly good squad players capable of helping the team when called upon. All the criticism they got was way over the top. And for once I disagree with Joe saying people flip flopped on them. Mostly a media illusion in my opinion.

Our academy create really good level players , but the state of the club through the last 10 or so years is not a good environment on and off the pitch . The prime example for me is rashford top quality talent but there are no leaders in the team to guide these sort of players when he’s rubbing shoulders with the likes of pogba , martial etc on a tonne of money with poor attitudes and a selfish mentality . You would have to say Marcus has pretty much gone down that same road big money poor attitude and performances that don’t match up to the talent they possess

It’s mad the injuries we’ve had over the past couple of seasons, I don’t know what it is with our fitness cos when you look at city, Arsenal, Liverpool Chelsea or any other big team it’s a hell of a difference in the injuries they’ve had, I’m sure we’ve just got a team of mardarses.. our fitness is nowhere near as good as the rest of the top teams, it really baffles me…

He was/is quite clearly approaching his prime playing years/maturity, where he will undoubtedly maximise his output… only added to the long list of players Utd have let move on in the last 10 years that where approaching their prime and went on to have solid careers with solid output: Johnny Evans Elanga Smalling Lukaku Darmian Herrera Mkhitaryan Depay Di Maria Welbeck Zaha Literally all sold in/approaching their prime and went on to big clubs and performed well. Unfortunately we just backed the wrong guys: Donny Martial AWB Fred Bailly Jones Pereira Lingard Tuanzebe All those and many more where kept instead and where the wrong decision ultimately.

Because we have ETH in charge. So no doubt there’ll be some sort of desire for all teams to play the same style, but the other teams coaches aren’t as thick as ETH and knew when it was wasn’t, too change. Also ETH isn’t a good personal manager and the others seem like they are. Basically we have a stubborn, inflexible and impersonal manager in charge of the men’s team

how can you even fix your mouth and say Malacia was only good enough for a back up player, wtf are ya'll watching, he came in and locked Salah down, made Luke shaw step up and challenged him properly for the spot in only a few games, yes he made some mistakes, but he was a runner on the pitch in similar fashion to your cherished Bruno. sometimes i reallly question this podcast knowledge and sight of futbol. no common sense sometimes, Shaw been barely playing for 10 years and Malacia has one major injury and you want to sell him...makes no sense. Bad enough we are getting rid of key players and keeping the ones most thought were superstars and now are not good enough.
