In this Fishing Challenge I take you guys with me to Academy Sports and Outdoors to buy some fishing gear!! The CLEARANCE fishing gear section is HUGE! They have $2 bins, $3 bins, $4 bins, $5 bins & $6 bins. Without looking, we pull out gear from each discounted fishing lure bin! We then head out to the water and see if we can catch some fish on the items! I DID NOT expect for this to happen..

I was watching you cast against the shore/cover with the spinnerbait and buzzbait, heard the reel engage a second after landing, and the bait not coming up on plane until foot or two from where it landed. That first two feet next to the reed/weed/shoreline is where you'll catch a disproportionate amount of your fish, but only if the bait is moving properly in that zone. You need to train yourself to feather/thumb the landing so the line is tight when the bait hits the water, engage the spool, and bring the rod tip back towards you as you start reeling, all at the same time. If you're doing it right, the bait doesn't sink, it just splashes on the surface and the blades start spinning instantly. Besides more fish, it's also going to result in more weed-free casts, as you're not letting the bait sink in shallows.

Bass will hit topwater all times through out the day so don’t be afraid to throw a frog at a new spot. I like zoom horny toads to cover water. Gambler burner worm 3/16 weight pegged in Junebug will catch them. Black and blue chatterbait with craw trailer. Those are some of my go to’s

I live in SC and I have gators in my backyard. They never really mess with humans unless people have been feeding them. Otherwise, they’re more scared of you and will keep their distance. PSA: never feed gators!!

For future reference and you probably already know this so tell me to shut up if I’m telling you something you already know but anytime you’re fishing new water, do focus on so much features on the lake that stand out to you, try fishing a moving bait that’s going to cover as much water in a good amount of as possible, pay attention to where most of your bites are coming from whether that be timber, pads, grass. Doesn’t necessarily even have to be a “ moving” bait you can be flipping the entire bank as long as you’re moving fast. But once you can break down those areas and key in on where you’re catching them, that’s where you can really slow down and break down those more specific areas. And if you’re not catching them on the bank at all. Get a good sonar unit for the kayak with good GPS and overlaying contour maps so you can focus on offshore structure like humps, points, etc. again I realize you might already know this stuff I just like giving advice.
