I headed back to the creek to test out a tandem lure I picked up at Academy Sports and Outdoors to confirm if the white bass run has begun.

Nice to see the H&H double was paying off. If you can't find those > tie your own doubles using two 1/8oz jig heads tied off on either end of three foot long piece of 12# Fluoro. Then attach a small swivel (use a palomar knot) about 10" down from the first jig head. Only takes a minute or two to rig up. I like to do that so I can throw one jig in white and one in chartreuse....helps get a feel for what they are eating. it is a very flexible rig...I'll even go with a 1/4oz jig head on the shorter drop, then a super tiny (1/64) oz on the second drop...in case they are picky about size...but can still launch it across the creek. FYI that first fish was a yellow bass, similar family. I've heard those called barfish too because of the very distinct lines.

My state im only allowed 3 hooks per line. I take sabiki rigs and cut the last 2 jigs off tie a barrel swivel to the main line and then to the main line of my rod, on the end where the weight goes on the sabiki i put a 5/16 or 1/4 jig head with a 3in swim bait. Weight and color changes for water conditions. Kills whites and hybrids in the ohio river. Catches skipjack too fishing for 3 species at once lol

That first fish was yellow bass, the rest were whites. When you get tired of these dinks, got to Livingston trailrace, get your $10 car pass at Browders marina, you can park overnight too and launch your yak which will get you to some good spots or the river for dead sticking flukes. TPWD gets their large females for their brooding, been going on for years. Lots of magnum sandies too, early to mid April is the best time for those double digit PB stripers that will pull you around.
@TheFishAndTrips
@TheFishAndTrips 7 ай бұрын
On Google maps trying to figure it out. If I launch from Browsers, it looks like I would fish at the top of the damn, which is terrifying because of they open the gates. What stops you from getting sucked in
@rammone5241
@rammone5241 7 ай бұрын
You plan on fishing in front of those gates when they are open in your yak would make for some epic YT. Actually you fish below, the dam but you have to get your pass at the marina to park. I don't recommend fishing in your yak if the gates are open. There is bend about a mile down where the fish like to stack up in March using 1/2 3/4 oz shad head style jig heads and 5-7" inch flukes white and pearl are good dead sticking, also get you some menhanden oil to lube them up, these stripers are from the gulf. One rod for medheavy and one med light for sandies .If you can catch shad they 5-7 inch are best. Find a video with TPWD lake Livingston dam and you will see how big those stripes are. It is worth the trip if you have not ever hooked up on a 20 lb stripe in you yak. Early at sunrise is best. A live 7 inch gizzard free lining will get them as the sun breaks. Daytime, use your graph and find those holes down river. Worth the trip.@@TheFishAndTrips

@@rammone5241 I've been on Google maps all morning checking it out and it looks good. Going to definitely check it out. Thanks for the tip. When you say bend. You mean where the the river bends to the left at Yaupon St?
@rammone5241
@rammone5241 7 ай бұрын
You can catch shad at another place put them ice in one of those small lunch coolers, it will last a few days in the fridge that way you do not have to haul a cast net with you, bring a dozen or so, that menhaden oil will lively them up. @@TheFishAndTrips
