These young performers sounded wonderful. To be a part of this monumental work of genius will be one of the best memories of their long musical lives. As a composer I stand in awe of Mahler's ability to compose a 23 minute work that makes perfect sense from beginning to end.

The process of getting a piece of music show-ready is exciting to witness too. Especially this one.

Probably the best thing I did in my four years at the Academy. Wish you'd played all of Semyon's advice from the end though!

shame on the brass and 2nd row winds for being on their phones never looking up - literally - to watch and learn something from this master. I can't believe phones are allowed in rehearsal here.

Musicians playing with their phones in the back row instead of listening to their colleagues and learning from the conductor. Horrible lack of respect.
