Kids playing Roblox have already built a Metaverse. The stuff my 12 year old talks about doing with his friends is highly analogous to the spaces in Snow Crash -- they're building their own fantasy businesses and basements for their friends to come hang out in, and they can build portals between them to be able to wander back and forth at will. It's exponentially more realistic and useful than any of Zuckerberg's favorite fever dreams. As usual, a few luminaries use High Language to talk about their goals while the plebes quietly build full worlds in Second Life.
