The Chignecto Isthmus - heart of the Acadian homeland - was a critical crossroads in the history of Colonial North America, connecting people, cultures, goods, ideas and technology. Where the spark of the Seven Years' War would ignite, where the Acadian Deportation would begin, and where France would lose a key region in their fight to hold what remained of their possessions in New France. But who would make the first move?

Thank you for making a video on Fort Beausejour! I visit the Fort 3-4 times a year and an extremely fascinated with the site. I’ve traced some of my ancestors to having lived in Beaubassin and being deported shortly after capture. Great videos! I’d love to see some content on the Battle of the Peticodiac or the Battle of Restigouche!

Oh wow! What a connection you have! It really is a fantastic place to discover some history. The Battle of the Restigouche has actually been on our radar for quite some time. We'll have to see if we can fit it in! Thanks for watching! :)

This was very interesting. I now work at Fort Lawrence and right at the site of these historical places. Your description of how the dykes work is brilliant. The fear now is that should they fail, the isthmus will be destroyed and cause Nova Scotia to become an island.

What a great place to work! Yes, we’ve heard about the threat to the existing dykes from rising sea levels and increased storms. Let’s hope a solution can be found! Thanks for watching! :)

My mother's family are Acadian. This was very interesting to watch. After the expulsion they were part of the group that migrated to what is today northern Maine.
