I don't know about that, even though he was the quiet one, he had to have had even a sliver of a sense of humor being around the absolute chaotic neutral energy of Alex and Geddy. See Alex's RRHOF 'speech' for a good example of this, as well as Ged's ridiculous stage props like washing machines and even an actual whole-ass functional rotisserie that a crew member with a chefs hat used DURING A CONCERT to hand out rotisserie chickens.
