2:47 Clarification: Some parts of Japan use NTSC, namely the western half, while others use PAL, but software was generally developed under NTSC, and standardization started to switch to 60Hz around the time PAL60 became a thing: which was coincidentally during the PlayStation 2 era since hardware was no longer just raw-downclocked for 50Hz rendering.
@zavtparticles68282 жыл бұрын
Japan also has the thing where they use different electrical rates in different areas, like whyyyyyyyy
@MasterAnimit2 жыл бұрын
@@zavtparticles6828 That's because first instalations were done by two separate firms: in 1895 German AEG (50 Hz) started in Tokyo, year later - American GE (60 Hz) started in Osaka. Later their systems were developed and finally, when it become nationalwide - costs of changing it were far too big. And decades later tsunami hitted in Fukushima nuclear power plant, as a result of wave almost half of Japan lost their power and second half couldn't help them but that's another story...

I remember back in the day arguing with LocalH and Fyighfreak on whether Obsidian was possible to FC, and Scott said himself "The only FC that is truly impossible is Trogdor on NTSC." this is definitely one of those accomplishments where along with being an iconic fc, it's a "mystery solved" type situation with how an fc like this could happen.
@matthewdrury64432 жыл бұрын
Amazing. I remember the debate on the Scorehero forums like, almost fifteen years ago, about the possibility of this. One question that remains: why exactly is that condition in the code about the guitar controllers implying a strum limit? What purpose does that serve?
@AbyssionQC2 жыл бұрын
There is no definite answer because Harmonix quite literally denied the existence of the strum limit and pretty much told people to get better at the game and stop coping (there's an interview somewhere on youtube, it's pretty hilarious in retrospect). Many believe it was implemented in the early phase where the controllers used for testing might not have been very reliable. It would effectively prevent overstrums on bad hardware. It's just a theory but it seems the most viable.
@prime98k42 жыл бұрын
@@AbyssionQC but weirdly enough the strum limit is also present in early Rock Band games, maybe they were worried about easy over strumming
@AbyssionQC2 жыл бұрын
I don't think they intentionally left the strum limit when they reused the engine to make Rock Band.
@Prism0192 жыл бұрын
Did the strum bars on early hardware have Schmitt triggers or debouncing capacitors? If not, it would make sense to have a strum limit like that. Instead of retooling the hardware, retool the software.

I own every main title guitar hero game from GH1 all the way up to WOR and everything between, while GH3 is considered the best and have improved from gh2 greatly. I would still say that gh2 is my personal favorite since the songs are way better and hitting notes were a bit more satisfying.
