Stop waiting and take action

During covid sadly a lot of people lose their job and they struggle to get a job because their portfolio was not update
when they reach for help, they always say the same things, i wish i act sooner

true story. There are jobs in the field, some of them region based, some of them offer visas and relocation but they indeed need skillsets and people to never stop pushing. Reels, connections, mentorships are all important but I gotta say some luck is a key factor as well :)

Good advice. I've been working in a relatively new studio for 1 year and a half, but in the last whole year I haven't done any animation that truly pushed My skills. It's all been ingame Mobile animations that are rather easy, but nothing to put in My demo reel. And I think that's lacking. That's why I signed up for an advanced animation course for 3 months and I've been working on an animation exclusively for My demo reel, so I have more things to show. I also want to try My luck overseas and see if I can join a foreign animation studio that also pushes My skills, since I'm currently feeling stagnated. I like my job, but I know I can do much better animations than just some Mobile isometric-view animations. I'd love to work on a series and someday a feature film. But for now I'm doing what I can and keep My job until I find something truly exceptional.

Yup, that's super true, if anyone who is watching this and they realize they want and need to get better(or their portfolio is stagnate), then the title says it right. Stop waiting! I worked with a small team on youtube videos(mainly as concept artist). 8 years I had this safety net and I kept postponing on working on personal/portfolio projects. Or taking classes on stuff I wanted to develop at(like animation). Now I'm out of a job, and while I did develop somewhat my skills, there is almost no piece in my portfolio to prove for that. So that's really great advice to anyone who still has a job :)

Ive got a similar situation right now. It's a smaller animation studio and they mainly have work for commercials and i feel like i can't really improve my skillset here. Still better than working in retail, because it still has to do with film. I'm doing Animation Mentor simultaniously and I feel really happy, because I have the feeling I'm still improving. Only thing is I barely have time for anything else and I have to sacrifice things like social life. Do you have tips to balance these things?

i will suggest you to focus on the craft like you are doing, just make sure you don`t burn out and set time for resting once in a while, like at least once every 2 weeks
