What is the point/use of this encloser? Say the one that can hold 2.

TB 4 cables are backward compatible with TB 3. I think putting a thermal pad on the bottom of the SSD is a bad idea. The purpose of the pad is to conduct heat away from the SSD to a nearby conducting surface. The enclosure's PCB, and the controller on it, is not such a surface. The pad is used to conductively connect the SSD to the removable aluminum cover of the enclosure. The amount of clearance between the SSD and the cover may vary depending on the thickness of the SSD, so two pads of different thickness are provided.

I have a 40 GB/s enclosure & a Samsung 990 EVO. But I also have a 10 GB/s secondSabeiant Enclosure w/ Samsong 980 SSD Formatted as NTFS to transfer some files to my new M$ Mac Mini, Made a mistake and opened a .dra file on it and it runs the time line perfectily well off it. So do Most Davinci editors really need 40 GB/s in the real world?

I have the same enclosure but It’s not heating upas much as yours. I don’t it’s a good idea of sandwiching the drive with the heat sinks. Try putting the thick one on the top of the drive or putting the thin one together with the thick one and then takes readings I’m getting around 43c most of the time. Great wee drive enclosure

This is not really fast, it should have at least 1000 Mb/s more read and write speed on this connection.

I don’t think the chip is fast enough with an external drive. It’s rated up to 5300, but 2600 not terrible.
