I almost didn't make it, it was one of the most challenging hikes I've ever done, but a fabulous reward once you get to the top.
Unfortunately, I got overzealous with the amount of camera equipment I decided to haul up the mountain, along with 6 l of water, We ended up needing to trade the backpack between us to make it to the top.
Then we were so exhausted, And it was so cold at the summit that we decided to tuck in early and didn't really do a good job of filming.

Yes, it was as loud as thunder, and with the big rocks rolling down the hill it sounded like the grumbling after a lightning strike. The whole experience was a lot like thunder, very loud, but we never caught the actual start of the eruption on camera...

Thanks for letting me relive this through your eyes. I did this in March of 2020 about a week or two before pandemic shutdowns. It was truly one of the most amazing things I've ever done and yes, an extremely challenging hike up (and down). Good job!

@@Everlanders We hiked up in clouds and wind pretty much the entire way up. Better than too hot though! For an old fart I held my own pretty well. Did the summit hike the next morning which was really not easy with the steep very loose soil but so worth it! If you get a chance, go stay at Pasajcap. Very Beautiful (but pretty much everything is around there) and very nice grounds (if you do, say hi to Pierre for me (Felipe)). That's where I was lucky enough to get stranded for about 6 weeks when COVID lockdown hit. ENJOY!

Thank you for all the great videos!I plan on driving the full length of the Pan-American Highway in a Tesla Cybertruck with a 25 foot Airstream tow. I will start from Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and finish in Ushuaia, Argentina. So I was wondering on your trip do you use any type of emergency backup communication such as HAM, CB, GMRS? Trying to figure out which service will work best for US, Canada, Mexico, South America.
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 жыл бұрын
There's better cell coverage than in the US, we don't use or know anyone using HAM.

That being said, most people don't make it much further than Chiapas with a travel trailer. The roads get pretty narrow and sharp corners in towns. Further, I realize you won't be getting this truck for a while, but still I should mention that the grid gets pretty weak down here, the voltage drops to the mid nineties under load and costs the owner 40 to 50 cents per kWh, so finding an outlet that I can get 600 watts from is a challenge. Further charging our comparatively small 11.5kWH battery could take days because of rolling outages...

Did you get the sound recorded from the eruption or could you hear if from there? How long did the sound take to get to you? Fabulous video!
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 жыл бұрын
The eruptions were spaced about 30 minutes apart most times, and we often missed recording the beginning when the sound was loudest. We could certainly hear it and feel it, very much like thunder. The basecamp was 3000m away (As the crow flies) from where we were, so science says it would have been a 9.09 second delay.
