What is a traditional Catholic? ❌MY GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED❌
My latest video where I discussed public vs. private revelation definitely stirred up some issues about what makes a person a “traditional Catholic.”
I wanted to make a video featuring other faithful Catholics who will share in this video what is a traditional Catholic to them.
🤍I do not believe that there is only one way to be a traditional & orthodox Catholic.
💖I believe that you can attend the Novus Ordo Mass and still be a traditional Catholic.
🤍I believe that you can pray the luminous mysteries and still be a traditional Catholic.
💖I believe that women can opt not to veil and still be a traditional Catholic.
🤍I believe that you can think that Vatican II is valid and be a traditional Catholic.
💖I believe that true Catholics understand that Pope Francis is the Vicar of Christ and his recent predecessors we all TRUE POPES and absolutely be a traditional Catholic.
🤍I believe that you can love the devotion to Divine Mercy and still be a traditional Catholic.
💖I believe that you can be a working mom and still be a traditional Catholic.
The bottom line for me with this project is that I’m trying to show that we can be faithful to Holy Mother Church AND be a traditional Catholic even if we don’t conform to some imaginary ideal of what constitutes a “traditional Catholic.”
I hope you’ll help me in conveying the reality that being a traditional Catholic means more than which Mass you happen to attend by sharing my video and supporting the contributors who shared in my video.

Took the words right out of my mouth!!!! Thank you Keith Nester! I would say my favorite contributor is Keith Nester. Traditional means obedience and following the teachings of the Church. I choose to go to Novus Ordo because this is where God has asked me to go. I miss the TLM but God has asked me to serve him in NO instead. As a convert I didn't know anything about the TLM and have been blown away with all the division. This video is so refreshing, thank you Catholic Wife!!

You know, I've been a Catholic my whole life. Cradle Catholic, including my entire education (including university) has been within the Catholic Church (Jesuit in college - Fordham). Catholicism is all I know that simply feels like home. There was a time I stepped away from practicing to explore other interpretations of God's word. Black churches, even looking into Islam and what they believe as an Abrahamic religion. But it was the glory and deep tradition of our Church that has brought me back. I am now a fully practicing Catholic and I consider myself very much rooted in Traditional Catholicism. And not because I attend TLM (admittedly - I NEVER HAVE), but because I fully understand and believe the dogma of our faith and Catechesis fully and deeply, and I live my life by the word of God. I attend mass every Sunday, I go to confession often, I make it my priority to pray, I pray the rosary, I observe all Holy days of obligation. I fully support our Pope. I live my life by the word of God and recognize Christ in my life every single day. I admit that I am leaning towards starting to veil, even in my Novus Ordo service which is more common in large cities like where I live now and where I'm from (LA and NYC). It's a choice I feel drawn to and will do so without being ostentatious among the congregation. I feel like a lot of the points of views shared in this video lean towards traditional Catholics simply attending TLM as the bigger factor. And I feel this is flawed as many of us do not, yet our devotion to our faith and all it stands for (in a very traditional sense) is no less.

I absolutely think that the vast majority of people who shared made it clear that simply because a person attends the Latin Mass that doesn’t make them a “better” Catholic or is the measure of what a traditional Catholic is. I had many people share that don’t attend the Latin Mass. I don’t think a person is a Traditional Catholic simply because they attend the TLM nor do I think a person isn’t a Traditional Catholic simply because they attend a Novus Ordo Mass. Faithful Catholics who fully submit FULLY to all the teachings of Holy Mother Church, love and serve the Lord, live their lives in accordance with the tradition of the faith, and try to share their faith with others …to me that is what a traditional Catholic looks like. I think you can be a complete fraud and attend the TLM and you can be a faithful follower of Christ and attend the Novus Ordo. Someone who craves the beauty, reverence and piety that our ancestors showed for the Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Sacrifice of the mass. The TLM is the most beautiful experience a human soul can have, (in my humble opinion). Great video!!! Thanks for the VERY important warning against sedevacantists who deny the Pope, the Magisterium and most importantly, the true presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist at Novus Ordo masses. Mary is the key to protect us from heresy. Pray the Holy Rosary❤❤❤

What he said about the dogmas and traditions of the church are some of the main reasons that I ended up leaving the Protestant faith as I realized the Catholic Church is the one true church that Christ established!

I love the responses from "Catholic Marathon Mom" and "Well with Joy." They were beautiful. Also love the responses from you, your husband, and Keith Nester about obedience to Holy Mother Church. As someone who lives in a very rural area with no access to the Latin Mass (without a 5-hour round-trip drive, anyway)... as someone who suffered from infertility and then cancer and could only have one child instead of a big family... I often feel left out of the conversations about being a traditional Catholic even though I consider myself one. So many of the responses were kind and beautiful. Great job on the video!

Coming from a protestant background - I loath labels. Labels normally have negative connotations and cause division. A traditional Catholic is simply an obedient Catholic who believes and practices what the Church teaches. What that looks like in practice is unique to each person and their circumstances. Christ's prayer for the Church is that we would be one as He and the Father are one. I encourage all Catholics to pray for our Holy Father, our Bishops, Priest, Deacons, and Seminarians!

This was beautiful Deena!! I loved this ♥️ I believe a traditional Catholic obeys the magisterium and believes our pope is our pope (that doesn’t mean that we can’t disagree with him or that he isn’t wrong at times) but that we love him and all people we find difficult to love by praying for them because we recognize them as God’s creations which he loves and died for. I believe it is reverence to the best of one’s knowledge and ability. I believe in modesty, LOVE, daily prayer and constantly learning. I believe in loving our neighbor as our self. I believe in charitable conversations and actions. I believe in loving the poor and the outcasts I believe in the Presence of the Holy Eucharist and that we should be as reverent as our bodies permit while not judging why our neighbor isn’t (they may have bad knees or other ailments or lack of knowledge) I believe in being gentle to those who do not know better.

I like what Kelley said about not being afraid to be challenged by the teachings of the Church while also seeking to understand why the Church teaches what it does. I also liked that David pointed out that he prefers the Byzantine Rite. When one thinks traditional Catholic they think Latin Mass, but we forget about the Eastern Catholic Rites!

Hi Deena! I loved everyone in this video but Audrey with the living faithful homeschooler's message served as a beautiful and sobering reminder which I so dearly needed to hear so I must say her snippet was my favorite. To me a traditional Catholic is someone who understands that the Church wasn't founded in 1962, who doesn't see Church history as simply putting away the old worn out trends of yester-year and putting on the newest fashions. A traditional catholic is one who knows what we have grown out of. Traditional Catholics are a leaf or a fruit that knows who we are through the context of the branch, limb, trunk, roots, and seed of the tree which is the history of our Church. They are someone who sees where we are now through the context of who we have always been, despite the attempts of many to hide it from us, or tell us that the past of the Church was dark until we turned towards the 'light' in the modern era. We see the way the Church has developed from the Apostles to now and understand that it is not a story of a bad Church redeeming itself and becoming good, but constantly being and existing right where Christ has always put us. We are a people who understands that there is nothing good which is new and young, only in that which is ancient and eternal and that new devotions, practices, and even liturgies only have worth inasmuch as they are rooted, truly rooted, in the ancient, eternal, immortal expressions of the Church which is her Tradition. Im glad you made this video. I’m striving to be a traditional Catholic. I’m a new convert from this past Easter. I am going to start the devotion of veiling. I think it’s a beautiful devotion to veil in front of the Blessed Eucharist. I’m striving to be a submissive, loving wife. I am a sinner and am frequenting confession. It is very difficult to be a Catholic in our culture, but we need to be all in and the faith is design to help keep us on track. I would love to attend the TLM but our Lord is leading me to be a good wife at this time and my husband wants us to attend mass with our extended family who has attended a certain parish for many years. I wondered if I could be a traditional Catholic because I’m a new convert but I yearn for the structure of tradition and need to be obedient and serve our Lord. I am a Traditional Catholic 💗🙏

I am a traditional Catholic I believe novos ordo is valid still prefer TLM.. Because how we pray matters (lex credendi lex orandi lex vivendi) In india there is no TlM but I would only attend TLM If I have a chance I practice the Devine mercy devotion ( because it is a legitimate devotion,our lord wanted to show his infinite mercy to the world, before the day of Justice ) I strongly encourage women to viel in mass, because it is a discipline that flows from the doctrine of different roles of men and women ( no wonder why feminism still scourging society ) I pray the luminous mystery I urge women to stay at home raising children.. Because it is a noble task and it is the husbands duty to provide for the family (unless out of necessity, I have the backup of fr ripperger in this), I don't judge the women who work, Only God knows the hearts I pray for pope francis Being a traditional Catholic is acknowledging you're a sinner and you need Gods Grace to be holy Being a traditional Catholic is searching what God wants me to do or what gives him more glory rather than my preferences and comforts It is everything about God less about us, (if you study TLM, you will find this theme, thats what we missing today ) Basically I have the stands of fssp priests, I love them, they changed my Life...

I am a Traditional Catholic too and this was my question for a long time too. I feel like a simple daily prayer routine, with the daily rosary, is important. Changing the way I dressed was also key for feeling like a solid Traditional Catholic.

I’m just a practicing Catholic. Great video and deeply enjoyed. I will rewatch this many times. I disagree with those that think pre Vatican 2 practices make a traditional catholic. That is more likely a latin mass catholic or maybe orthodox catholic though that may be confusing to those who might think of Latin American or orthodox churches. Like many of you I understand and likewise feel the yearning for what appears to have been a time of a more revenant and even intellectual understand of the sacraments, dogma, and doctrine. I don’t like to consider myself a traditional catholic. I often think of myself and seeking catholic orthopraxy. I’m not sure if that sounds like babble someone wanting to sound scholarly. So I’ve settled on my favorite term. I’m a practicing Catholic. I also happen to think there are no Catholics on earth, there are only those that are practicing Catholics preparing for the big show.

Deena, this was so consoling for me. We are still attending the NO as a family(and not a traditional one either) and it is very hard on my heart. I go to tlm on my own when I can. This helped me to know that I am still a traditional Catholic. Thank you. Pray for us.

Excellent collaboration! I love how you had Audrey on. I subscribe to her as well and she is amazing! I've always found the term "traditional Catholic" to be kind of redundant because is there really any other kind of Catholic that's valid?. I say that because I agree with Chris's definition, that one follows all official teachings of the Church. If the Catholic Church teaches the Magisterium is infallible then one cannot reject her teachings and be in good standing. The alternative is someone who picks and chooses which teachings they want to follow or not. I'd say they're not Catholic at all.

Stemming from what your husband said, you can be a traditional Catholic and absolutely question the Church's teachings. It's good to inquire about the reasons why, and more often than not having those questions makes you better understand why the Church teaches what it does.

@Hannah Gray I think there is a fine line between questioning the teachings of the Church and simply being curious as LEARNING what the Church teaches. It’s absolutely wrong for a person who is Catholic to think they know better than the Church which is the point my husband was making.

Obedience to the teachings of the Church seems to be the running theme from all the people in the video. What erodes our obedience? One thing would be relativism and falling into that trap of our individuality. Being a Traditional Catholic, we depend on God's Grace because we are No. 2 and exist to love God as God intends us to, because God loves us. May we be in God's Grace when we are called home.

To me a traditional Catholic goes to Latin Mass, receives communion on the tongue, veils, doesn't eat before communion, doesn't eat meat on Fridays and says the Rosary.

I agree on the desire to emphasize on the obedience and adherence to traditions of the church. But in 33 yrs with NO, that I believe is the very reason why I left it and attended TLM. Novus Ordo doesn’t nurture catholic dogma in the long term and thus I cannot comprehend how can someone adoring the NO be at the same time truly traditional catholic. 1. In NO, they do not emphasize the Eucharist be truly the body and blood of Christ, bishops and priest even reject giving the Eucharist kneeling and on the tongue. 2. In NO, during Homily, all parishes I attended to emphasize that even non-catholics like muslims and other protestants are also saved per V2. But the traditional catholic teaching this is not true. 3. V2 is not fully erroneous or not aligned to tradition, there are items that are valid and true. However, in NO, V2 is a package accept everything or reject the full thing. So in my perspective, one can be catholic but to be traditional catholic is to obey the authentic Catholic teaching, and sadly, i am sorry for this but in my experience authentic catholic teaching were already set before V2. V2 should be only to reinforce, so the dogmas it alter, it becomes not catholic. So the saints like St Teresa of Avila, St Padre Pio, Pope St Pius X, St Veronica Giuliani, St Charles Borromeo etc are the true models of traditional catholicism. Thank you Deena for this video. I agree with Christina in this video as well. So for me, to be a traditional catholic is to adhere to the only deposit of faith handed down by the apostles and their successors. Any alterations and discontinued hermeneutic of continuity in these deposit of faith and not explicitly rejecting it makes someone a catholic but not a traditional one.

I agree wholeheartedly with you assessment of the Novus Ordo and pray that I don’t ever have to leave the TLM. That said - there are endless Catholics who do not have the option of attending the Latin Mass. I hardly think that simply attending the Latin Mass alone makes a person a Traditional Catholic. I am well aware of the MANY abuses found exclusively in the Novus Ordo Mass. Would you suggest a person who has no option to attend the Tridentine Mass stop attending Mass altogether if the Novus Ordo is their only option? From what I can see in the small sampling of comments here on this video is there are A LOT of faithful Catholics who have felt ostracized and unworthy to claim the “title” of a Traditional Catholic simply because they can’t attend the TLM. I am happy that many have discovered that while there will always be fanatical people who want to perpetuate division under the illusion of piety …they can be a Traditional Catholic and not attend the TLM (many through no fault of their own). “Still, keep in mind that even though the traditional Latin Mass has its foundation in elegant reverence, you will find that many of the persons at a Latin Mass are there only as intellectual, and even 🤨 arrogant, Catholics. This extreme is just as spiritually disordered as the lukewarm liberals on the other extreme of the spectrum. True Catholics are humble souls seeking chastity, modesty, humility, constant prayer and gratitude, freedom from lust and hate, freedom from competition, and freedom from the world and its enticements and sins. So, if from the depth of your heart, you do seek humility, chastity, modesty, constant prayer and gratitude, freedom from lust and hate, freedom from competition, and freedom from the world and its enticements and sins, then, regardless of what others around you do, you will be a *REAL Traditional Catholic* Catholics are not fundamentalists or puritans. Just as Catholics cannot be “Bible only” Christians, we cannot be “Council of Trent only” Christians either. 👉🏼We are not free to simply ignore the Second Vatican Council or the ordinary Magisterium. We are not all afforded the same opportunities as Catholics. We are not all in the same place on our faith journey. We should practice humility and extend Grace and not ever think that we are superior to ANYONE simply because we are so BLESSED to attend the TLM. Pax Christi ~ Deena

@@ACatholicWife I totally agree with your points Deena. Yes indeed not every one is so blessed. Just like me before the pandemic. At some point it would really be a process like what I have been through. The Lord really went through my stone brain and heart to put me in TLM. Before NO and TLM, I was even a lukewarm agnostic for a decade. Indeed the Lord works more than what we can fathom even while we are at sleep. I laughed at what you mentioned about a lot of arrogant and uncharitable folks in TLM. I experience this right the first time i’ve attended it and I can’t get what they are thinking of. Even until now, I experience this in fact. But amidst all these, their spicy behavior gave a lot of flavor into my TLM experience. Again V2 is not really all bad, it had great good intentions and majority are really in aid of the church in the modern times. Nevertheless, for the points it had distorted the continuity of the deposit of faith or attempted to add a twist to what had been previously clear, being a pastoral rather than a dogmatic council, I agree with SSPX on the obedience only to its content which is in hermeneutic with the previous councils. That I believe would not really qualify as ignoring the council and the magisterium. The Council of Trent was a great help to my understanding of the faith, not that I would just want to be a Council of Trent only guy, but because I acknowledge the truth it was completely consistent of with our faith. Currently, as I understand that most do not really have the opportunity to be at TLM, in the past 7 months, I used my resources to bring almost now 25 of my friends and family into the TLM, spending on transportation food and even the missal and rosaries. This I believe are the little things I least can do to address the constraints. I also teach them of the history and how TLM transformed everything I erroneously understood about the Faith. Little by little, I believe this promotion of the TLM would truly and fully bring the faithful to the Catholic Church and to the clarity of catholic doctrine, first of all with the Lord’s grace. So for those who have influence and social media reach, I believe sharing our experiences with TLM would be a great precursor for change. We are all His instrument of love and faith. @Danielle Mic thank you for your question. I can’t say that I was ever disappointed when I found out the gender of our babies. I wish we had MORE babies but didn’t really care if they were boys or girls. I always assumed that my husband would want a son and asked him when we found out each time if he was disappointed. We actually just talked about this the other day as we are anticipating the arrival of our first granddaughter. He said he never was disappointed with not having a son. I do think he enjoyed that I never had girly girls - they all enjoyed sports and fishing and things that dads typically like to do with boys. I think I would have been a great boy mom but God sure didn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️and blessed me with four beautiful daughters. Who knows maybe I’ll have a grandson one day 😁♥️😍 I pray that your newest little blessing brings you endless joy ♥️ Pax Christi~ Deena
