Great race and great video again Chris, keep it up!

I feel you, Chris. There is something about this track that just rubs me the wrong way. I think it's the excess of weirdly slow, first gear corners. A bit of advice: you can use more curbs on the Esses towards the beginning of the lap.

finding breaking spots in cota with everything so far away and the super wide track is a challenge, but some corners there are super satisfying to get right. Very complete and underrated circuit IMHO
@chrisrogerssimracing5 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s the difficulty I found with the braking points… you have to look quite a long way away. I ended up using things like marshal tents and even colours in the crowd. That is one great point about tough tracks though… the tougher they are, the bigger feeling of satisfaction when you get it right.
@Ben_LaBroca5 ай бұрын
Mate the way you set this video up I was expecting doom and gloom, but what a great drive! COTA is an acquired taste for sure - so many medium speed corners and getting offline is punished big time. Awesome result, even if you didn't enjoy it! 😂😂
@chrisrogerssimracing5 ай бұрын
Haha cheers, it was a very strange feeling after the race… it felt like a proper slog, and didn’t feel like a 6th place finish (which I was delighted with). Everything about the track was tough… fast long straights to tight and narrow turns, no chance to get into any rhythm. No grip, not many visible braking points, tricky apexes, killer kerbs. Other than that, it was great 🤣
@firstjayjay5 ай бұрын
When are we going to see you to in the same race. ???? 🙏
@lewisgordon14905 ай бұрын
The best thing i can say about COTA is it's one of the most balanced tracks. It doesn't significantly favor top speed, handling, low or high speed turns. Also it's one of the best tracks for both cars and bikes. The way they did their yellow sausages is possibly the best of any track I've driven to discourage corner cutting while still providing an escape route w/o a strong probability of damage (I have a love-hate relationship w/ them). It's esses is one of the hardest series of corners IMO. If you make the slightest mistake on one, it throws you off all the others. I have NEVER, even once, in any car, nailed all of them when on a lap 🥴
@chrisrogerssimracing5 ай бұрын
Yeah, you’re spot on about top speeds. That BMW was visibly so much faster than me in a straight line, but had no handling in any of the corners. Having the ultra-long straights immediately followed by tricky tight corners really disrupted my rhythm. And as for those Esses… they reminded me of Maggots and Becketts at Silverstone, only twice as long and 10 times as difficult! With strict track limits to boot, as if it wasn’t already technical enough 🤣

I agree with you about COTA. Sunday-evening I at first thought we would this week be racing on Road America. Road america in ACC! But alas... Too many blind corners. Remember that we still have rF2. Just a couple of hours ago: GT3, Zandvoort. Twenty people had yet signed up. Perhaps you are still in rookies there. With your consistency you are out of rookies within a week. To get out of rookies I did a couple of Tatuus races. I also signed up to a couple of races where everyone had to drive the little Radical. While great fun, I felt the Tatuus got me faster out of rookies and so stuck with the Tatuus (that lovely level of grip!). Come, have another look in RFactor2 when you have the time!
@chrisrogerssimracing5 ай бұрын
Funnily enough I fired up rF2 last week when the M2 Cup was at Lime Rock Park. Sadly though, there were only 3 signed up not long before the race start, so I didn’t go for it. That was daytime rather than peak evening time though. I’ve been wanting to do another rF2 race for a while, but I’m more of a daytime driver and can’t seem to find the full grids. I’ll keep looking though!

Think I limped home around P18 at the end of it. So, to get make up that many places, especially on your first run, is very impressive. I'll be sticking to Zolder this week, I think. Not that fast around there but I quite like the teack and I'll be praying for rain 😉 #wetweatherspecialist

@chrisrogerssimracing5 ай бұрын
It’s difficult to say. It had a HUGE speed advantage in a straight line, but I guess it could have been due to a setup - and given how unsteady it was in the corners, they could well have gone for top speed at the expense of downforce/grip. It was demoralising though… on a track like this, the straights are the only clear places to launch an overtake, and I just couldn’t stay close.

I certainly do hate COTA aswell :D have you considered using CrewChief? I find the program to be superb, especially informing about your sector pace compared to race leader, sectortimes and even damage, fuel and tyres - and that with voice control. If you record then probably dont use Nvidia but OBS where you can tell the program to not record your mic and not the sound of CrewChief. Anyways: Another great race and well deserved 6th place. I suppose the BMW had less wing and/or rake compared to you. That's why it was faster on the straights but had traction issues in fast turns. In the end, being a clean, consistent and patient driver like you are is better than being a fast hotlapper always on the cusp of losing control. You raced 12 laps, if someone is half a second faster/lap that's 6 seconds. One spin, two bad turns into the green/gravel or three powerslides and thats all gone. All of which can happen really fast if you are pushing too hard. Love the content, as always a joy to watch your ACC content.

Yeah, great point about the BMW setup, that sounds like a sensible explanation. As for Crew Chief, I’ve never really fancied it because I really struggle with concentration if I hear voices 🤣 I fear that Jim’s updates would do more harm than good for me, I think I’d start listening to his message and end up missing a braking point or something!
