GT will get a call from both the B1G and SEC. The B1G not gonna pass on planting a flag in Atlanta and the SEC are gonna be motivated to stop that from happening.

Georgia tech die hard here, if the acc implodes we must act accordingly. I trust AD J Batt to make the correct decision to go to either BIG 10 or 12 or even the SEC. What they can’t do is be stagnant and stay in a dying conference. Not the worst idea to go be independent once again.

Too many people in the comments are unfamiliar with GTs game. Their collective memories don’t go past 2015 and the last years of Paul Johnson. GT used to be a powehouse located right smack dab in the middle of the college football capital of the modern world. Brent key has this program moving in the right direction and In this era of transfer portal and NIL, watch out for GT.

It seems to me that the SEC wants to add programs that (1) have a real chance of being competitive in football (2) have a large fan base that is willing to travel (3) entry into a new market. Many people do not realize how great of a school GTech is for academics. Its peer schools are MIT and Cal Tech for engineering, and in terms of overall academics, it is similar to places like Michigan and Cornell. There are only so many football players who get over a 700 on the math portion of the SAT. Engineering schools are not normally "party" schools. You can only party so much when you have courses like thermodynamics, econometrics, data analytics, differential equations, etc... on your schedule. GTech is much smaller than most big Southern state schools and has a relatively smaller alumni base as a result. Given all that, I can never see GTech in the SEC. They have an outside chance at the Big Ten because of their location and stellar academics, but how many teams does the Big Ten want who have difficulties fielding a competitive football team every year?

What’s crazy about this comment is GT has more SEC titles than half the SEC. They left the SEC over some bs politics in the 60s and were going to get back in in the 70s but Vince Dooley and other SEC schools that had bad blood w/ GT blocked the campaign.

You are correct in saying that GaTech's peers are MIT & CalTech. To be perfectly honest, I firmly believe that the Techies ( as us UGA Dawgs call 'em) are split as to where they would like to wind up. I can see half going for the B1G and I can see half going for the SEC. I don't really believe that the Big XII would be a consideration due to GaTech's incredibly high academic standards, but the SEC, oddly enough, would be a consideration due to Tech's history with the SEC.

Georgia Tech had a less than 5% shot at getting in the SEC or the Big 10. If the ACC lost a good chunk of thir brands. Nobody can say anything to Georgia Tech if they decided to go to the Big 12. Or any other ACC school. College sports is going in a clear direction. These schools have to protect themselves. Because at tge end of the day. Not 1 ACC school is staying just to become irrelevant. I think everyone of a certain age has seen enough conferences fold. And it's the same story. If you try to make plans when the fire starts. The ones that told you to stay loyal are the first ones to leave. Stanford, Cal, Oregon, and Washington told everyone to hold the line. The whole time, they were working angles to try to get in the Big 10. Georgia Tech owes it's fans not the ACC.

I know for a fact Georgia Tech would get a Big Ten invite

Georgia Tech being a AAU school gives them a fighting chance , but still unlikely they'll get an invite to the Big Ten

I think Tech would prefer to stay in the ACC however, Tech's academics and location in ATL make it interesting for the BIG. BIG presidents not the AD's make the decision who is admitted to the conference and they are way more interested in the reputation of the school than a casual fan may think. Tech is a AAU member ie serious research university. It matters to BIG presidents.

@dustyroad76 I'm well aware of GA Tech's academic standings. I wouldn't argue against that. But, the Big 10 did turn down Stanford. This final round of realignment will not be based on academics alone. Notre Dame is #1 for the Big 10. It's in their contract that everyone gets more if they join. #2 for the Big 10 and #1 for the SEC is UNC. Then UVA has interest from both conferences. It's well documented to the point. It's kind of a when for them. This is why it's smart for FSU and Clemson to break out now. When they get free. Choices have to be made. After those 6 schools land wherever, it'll be really difficult for anyone else to get in those conferences. Stanford may be able to ride Notre Dame into the Big 10. And maybe the SEC can get UNC, UVA, FSU, and Clemson. But if that happens. Nobody is getting into those conferences for half a century or more. The world of college athletics is completely different now. You have to bring 100+ million in value and be prepared to spend bug money to contend. The old world everyone judges this stuff by no longer exists. Which is why I say GA Tech has to look out for itself. In a perfect world it could go back to what it was. But that world no longer exists. And it won't ever exist again. GA Trxh us one of the schools I hope lands in a good spot, though.

GT sits in the capital of college football, a top 4 state for recruiting, where the college football HOF is located with the busiest airport in the world. There’s no way the Big Ten or SEC will allow that opportunity to pass to the Big 12 or AAC. People on this thread smoking crack. GT is also AAU accredited which matters to the Big Ten. GT has rivalry history with Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee. So they would have more support than FSU or Clemson. They also have history with Notre Dame if the Big Ten was hoping to entice ND.

Non-renewal by ESPN would be a good thing. A big part of the revenue problem for the ACC, comes from being second class citizens, to Disney/ABC/ESPN. If they had anyone with a little bit of forward thinking, they would find a network that didn't have ties to another conference. They could be the CW flagship program for football, and be in a better position for revenue. The real goldmine, would be finding a way to completely onboard Notre Damn and NBC.
