I got into a BSN Pathways program with a 2.6 on a 3.0 requirement. It’s all about how you present yourself in your personal statement, explain your academic gremlins, ENTRANCE EXAM SCORES and have B’s in your Bio and Chem classes. I got B’s in all of those and absolutely KILLED my teas and scored in the top 95 percentile. They’ll overlook some negatives if they feel you have Potential and really care about nursing as your career choice. I failed Anatomy 1 three times before I got serious about school and passed, anyone can do it if you put in the work!

Hi Liz! I am CURRENTLY in an Accelerated BSN program at UCONN, and it is an 11-month program. We just finished our second semester, and boy do I wish I had watched a video just like yours before I started this program! I was reassured that I could get into the program because of the necessity of a previous bachelor's degree in any field, as long as your GPA was 3.0 or higher. My previous Bachelor's was in Fine Arts, and while that doesn't seem like it correlates, I have been a CNA for many years and that experience has paid off so much. It is very intense, and I agree with you that even 18 months would seem like too little time to process all of the information needed to know to be a competent nurse! I had to quit working altogether this year in order to pursue my dream of becoming a Pediatric Nurse, and I can't believe I'm already 2/3 of the way through the program! I love your videos and my overall goal is to become a Pediatric NP, so I really have been enjoying watching your NP videos! Thank you for posting these videos about nursing, as I am sure it is so helpful for those who are considering going into the nursing field!

@@suzantheamichel3612 do any of your peers work at all??
@suzantheamichel36126 жыл бұрын
There are a fair amount of people working and going completing this program. If you have to do it, you have to do it. No one can make that call for you but yourself, and don't feel like you're being pressured into quitting because of this program. I would like to say though, that you should definitely have a good sense of how much you can handle working and studying, attending class (a 9-hour class day, 2 9-hour clinical days) and various labs throughout this program that offer very little leeway in terms of adaptability. There are make-ups, but they tend to be on the weekend and in Storrs. This is such a short program so you have to be focused, but if you know what you can handle, you can keep working without any problems.

She applied and was accepted to five nursing programs. She chose the shortest, a ABSN lasting 11 months 8 days. She is halfway through and today I had the privilege of paying for two NCLEX RN study guides. I did the same for other granddaghter when she got har masters from TAM. I'm 64 with a BS in Chemistry from 1986. Finishing Physio now, with Micro next semester then ABSN applications at UNR, Samuel Merrit, Wm Jessup, USF, and the local community colleges. In the Sacramento area, applications are about 10 to 1 for seats in community colleges- they are on a lottery system once you have multi-criteria scores with >70-75 out of 100.

I'm seriously SO glad I found your channel, especially this video! I had been struggling deciding what I wanted to do as a career. It was pharmacy first, and then I decided to major in biology first before going to pharmacy school, and then once this past spring semester came around, I realized I didn't see myself being happy with pharmacy...especially going to school another 3-4 years studying something I probably won't like in the end. I work in a pharmacy now and although I don't mind working there, I wanted a more fulfilling and rewarding job. I had never thought about being a nurse because I immediately jumped to the conclusion that I wouldn't be good at it or diligent enough. I started to think about nursing more when I was in the hospital for a few days... the nurses and home care nurses were so great to me and I loved talking to them about their experiences they've had! I was talking to one of my friends who just graduated nursing school and she said her school has a 2nd degree BSN program that's only 15 months! I already applied so once I get in, I'll be starting next fall and I couldn't be more excited :) I feel so much more motivated knowing that I'll be studying and learning something I can use to truly help people!

When I look at online option there are 6-7 courses I need to do n when I look at community college option they require you to do a lot more. They require you to take entrance exam, TOEFL(since my education is from outside US) n then m required to do prerequisites in order to do prerequisites for nursing. I really want to do this, but I feel this is but confusing n complicated for me right now. Anyone who’s done it from community college, could you tell me how long does it take to complete your prerequisites from there? I am 30 right now n mother of two beautiful daughter, I really want to have an identity and a good career. I really want to work towards this but my experience in terms of communication between me n community college staff had not been that good. They are kind of laid back when it comes to responding to my questions. I really hope m able to do it.

Look into online studying for the prerequisites and testing for them at clep.collegeboard.org/exams These are specifically going to help you acquire these prerequisites faster. When you are ready to test for Toefel, I suggest you find the material on youtube and study guides you could test for that too. It's a long journey but it will be worth it especially if you decide to pursue higher education, you'll be a step ahead with the prerequisites. Alternatively go to a private school take an rn, then go the rn bsn route but you could require prerequisites for it (not sure)

Hi Liz! Thanks so much for your channel-it’s so informative and fun. I’m graduating coming May with a music degree (violin) AND starting an accelerated program like two weeks after graduation! Kind of scared but I’m excited🥰 fun fact: one of the clinical sites of the nursing school is the hospital I was born in!

OMG!!! I am in LOVE with your videos already. I’m graduating in May 2019 with my bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies. I too originally wanted to be a doctor, but I also realize I want to be a mom. And a doctor schedule is so demanding I think I would get in the way. So I changed my major my junior year, and I spent the last year and a half working completing the prerequisites and classes for a bachelor’s. Now I applied at University of Mobile accelerated nursing program which is 12 months! I’m excited and nervous!!! Like I don’t know what to expect or if I can handle it. I’ve done summer school which we complete a 6 month classes in 4 weeks so I’m assuming/hoping it would be the same as this. Congratulations and good luck to everyone.

Absolutely love your videos and have been listening to them while I’m at work! I’m about to start my nursing prereqs next semester with the intent to apply to ABSN programs and I’m so excited! I have a degree in architecture (currently working in healthcare architecture, designing hospitals, etc.). Been working in this field for the past 3 years and really don’t feel like sitting at a desk 9-5 is what I was meant to do my entire life. I’ve always had an interest in medicine and used to love hearing about my mother’s experiences at work (she’s an RN). It’s going to be tough, but I think the fulfillment I’ll feel from attaining and utilizing practical, life-saving knowledge will be so worth this transitional period.

Thanks Liz - I am 48, I have been working in Healthcare finances for 17 years now. I felt it was time for a change and decided to take my prerequisites and give nursing a chance. I applied to two schools offering accelerated nursing programs and both accepted me which is exciting. However, my age is making me reconsider this. I don’t know if graduating being almost 50 is a good idea. Any piece of advice? I would greatly appreciate it.

I'M in an accelerated Nursing program offered at a university but it's an accelerated ASN/ LVN course 17 months so it's offered through a UNIVERSITY and it's intense and also fully engrossing in the Nursing science. they have a 98% N.C.L.E.X. rate so that's cool. thank u for these video's. I'm in southern California by the way so I had to really look around because there are a ton of LVN schools in Southern California, I had to shop around. i don't think 17 months is bad at all. and yes it's a five-day-a-week program.

Definitely glad I found your channel and this video. I am in my final semester of Graduate School, within the legal field (not law school), and while I love the program I am in, I hate the legal field so much. I work as a paralegal and I am not happy. I have had experiences that keep pushing me towards nursing, so much so that while I am in my last semester of grad school, I am looking into ABSN programs and trying to figure out what prereqs I will need so that I get accepted into a program and succeeding.
@NurseLiz5 жыл бұрын
That’s such a neat background to have for nursing! If you ever miss law things some nurses get paid BANK to be legal representatives in cases, and you’d probably be qualified for that! It’s per diem I believe and a great side gig

Currently facing the wake up call of realizing I want to be a nurse two years into college! I'm in the middle of transferring to the local community college that has a great two year program, then while working I plan to apply again back to the school I'm correctly in for the ASN to BSN program. My life is a handful right now, but I have to thank you for clearing things up!

Very interesting. It is quite different in the province of Ontario - the accelerated BSN programs have similar prerequisites but, we must have much less schools, because the academic marks required are in the 4.0 range. The length seems to range from 16-24 months. They are called Second Degree programs. (You call them ABSN .) Any prerequisite for a ABSN program must be taken at university level. There are one year "pre-health" programs at colleges that prepare students for entry into a BSN program but the programs are pricey and don't guarantee entry . The marks still must be in in the 4.0 range etc. . We do not have a 1 year LPN program nor do we have Associate degrees instead we have a 2 year practical nursing college diploma ( LPNs in most of Canada and RPNs in Ontario). I believe the scope of a Canadian practical nurse is much broader than an AMerican LPN. The bridging from an RPN to an RN program is equally competitive and also about 3-5 years depending on whether you are full time or part time. Honestl, considering the shortage of nurses, I think the arduousness of our Canadian pathways are ridiculous! I don't know if it's the USA's higher population or different funding or policies but it sounds like Americans have many more academic options. THank you for explaining these programs.
