How is it going? Any updates? Do you think I should skip LVN and go straight to RN?
@greeneyedbaldy7 ай бұрын
@@lindsay3793 Hi Lindsay, I just graduated a few weeks ago and I'll be taking the nclex soon. As for your question, it really depends on your specific situation. I dont regret becoming an LVN, but I do wonder if back in 2017 I should have finished my associate degree, and retaken the TEAS exam instead. I could have increased my point value significantly, which meant that I could have conceivably gotten directly into a program in 2018 or 2019, meaning I would have finished in 2020 or 2021. However, this would have also meant that I would have had to have kept working as a CNA for a couple more years and I was really tired of being a CNA. I guess just try and formulate both scenarios and weigh the pros and cons of each. Good luck to you 🍀

I definitely think that nursing is one of those fields in which life experience is a huge advantage, and employers recognize that. I started nursing school when I was 27, after having my two oldest kids and then, I started NP school at 45 (after having my fourth child at 43, so I guess you could say I've fully adopted the "never too late" philosophy in all aspects of my life). Both times in school I found that a) I wasn't anywhere near the oldest in my class and b) having a little extra maturity and exposure to the ups and downs of life really helped. Now, as a new NP at 47, I had no problem finding my first job in primary care and I'm looking forward to a 20-25 year career as an NP!

At the time I was married and had four children who were 9, 7, 3 and 1. It was extremely hard and unfortunately I didn't have a great support system. I was dismissed from the program in my first semester as I didn't pass by a few points. Life happened and now here I am excited about pursuing nursing. I am in my second marriage, my children are adults and in their late teens and I have a great support system. I am currently applying to an accelerated program for Fall 2019. I don’t have kids yet but I want a happy family with kids and a stable income helping people. just felt like sharing since I enjoy reading others comments and stories.... thanks for the videos!! 💕

Thank you sooo much Nurse Liz for this video!! I have been a cook for over 31 years. I was my mother's caretaker for almost 10 years. She passed away 4 years ago and the honor of taking care of her is the reason I believe I have found my "calling"!! I have been doing prerequisites for 2 years and now I will be starting the nursing program this August...3 days before my 50th birthday!! I will admit I'm nervous, but I am also super excited to start the next chapter in my life and to help take care of people!! I have a soft spot for the elderly and I actually want to steer towards geriatrics/Alzheimers. I actually feel her presence every day, guiding me through this journey!! You are NEVER TO OLD to go back to school!! I got this!!💯👩⚕️💗🤗

This gives me hope and inspiration. 23 years ago, I completed CNA 1 & 2, program, then began an LPN school in a small school in NC. I struggled with test taking and due to an undiagnosed “comprehensive learning disorder”, I withdrew from the program in my last semester. I could kick myself for sure because I’ll be 50 in August and I’ve never felt successful. I’ve always worked full time in the medical filed. I was a phlebotomists in a small office for many years, then I was an office manager for a neurologist (the dr diagnosed me with ADD after 17yrs of withdrawing from LPN school). I love the field and now have my own business where I run errands and do home healthcare for seniors. I’ve always dreamed of working in labor and delivery or becoming a midwife. I’m military wife and my husband will retire in 4yrs. I’ve raised two children who are now 19 and 13yo. I have one more year homeschool my son, before he starts high school. I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished all that I was meant to do. I’m extremely active and feel like the older I get, the sillier it is to go back to school....since my memory is awful! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. God Bless!

I am in 2nd semester of an ABSN program. Most of my class is 30's and 40's aged people with a couple 20's and one plus 50. It feels entirely doable. I was worried about being "too old" as well. . . .But I think I can still work 20-30 more years for sure. Maybe shift into education in my older years if I'm still with it! Everyone I've met in my cohort are DRIVEN. The 40's and 50 yr olds are super grounded. I can feel their determination and like you said, an unflappable aspect! I'm someone who went to college at age 18 and was lost. Did many things all over. . insurance, florist, soap company. It never felt RIGHT. Wasted over 10 years just being a lost random person. Now I feel anchored. I love nursing school. I love having drive and challenge and purpose. It is so difficult but I can tell VERY WORTH IT. Just starting down this path I already feel I belong! thanks for the great video!

This is exactly what I needed to see today. Thanks Nurse Liz! I'm 40 years old and have been working as a lawyer for the past 15 years. For the past 10 years, the possibility of going back to university to study nursing had been tickling at the back of my brain. This year I decided to make it happen. I've got the (somewhat terrified) moral support of my husband and I've applied to university. Early offers come out next Friday and I hope to start my degree in the new year. I worry that people will think I'm crazy but I really want to make this change. Thank you for this encouraging video.

@Kylie Moloney: Oh gosh...I am also a lawyer (also a soon to be PhD in Law)...Law is killing me and I never has a courage to leave this field....However, getting into the nursing studies (or a social work) has been tickling the back of my brain since the past couple of years...and I am so happy to see I am not the only lawyer in the room who wishes for nursing :D.....Wish you all the best in your new path...

Thank you for this!! I am 41 and hope to start my accelerated BSN in December. I worry sometimes that I will be the old lady in class, lol! But, as you stated, I am happy to be going on this journey as a more mature, responsible person. I am also making a switch from an allied healthcare field, I am currently an OT, so I already have a lot of hospital based healthcare experience. I am not making the switch to get away from OT, I still really enjoy it. I am making the switch due to job accessibility in my particular situation. Which is a mature, grown up decision, I suppose. Thank you so much for all of your videos, I have watched a ton of them and they are so helpful! I really appreciate how real and candid you are.

Oh My God! This made me feel great. I am 35 yrs old and I don’t think I’m old to go back to school. It’s been a while of course. But I have been toying with the idea of doing Nursing for a while now. I have been a Medical Assistant for 12 yrs and a Referral coordinator for 2 yrs. I have a six yr old daughter and I want to do this of course for me but also for her as well. I want her to be proud of her mommy. And it’s true what you say, I feel like now at 35 yrs old I am most mature and disciplined. I feel like now is the time for me to attempt this. So thank you for this motivation. You’ve gained a subscriber and IG follower.

Not nursing related, but my first college stats class we had a student who had a child at the time and was probably in her 30s. But I applaud her for being in a course while being a mother and kicking butt, keeping some of us on track, and just working with us. The age gap is invisible when the stress or environment is the same for everyone. It's like everybody sees each other as a person they can rely on for that class or program. Especially with programs like nursing, or anything medical related. It's crazy the conditions they put us through and how those conditions make us come together! Love the video!
