Here’s a factoid - I’m a pharmacist. During the early days of Covid when you couldn’t find a bottle of rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer anywhere, we compounded hand sanitizer in the pharmacy with Everclear. I remarked on more than a few occasions that the pharmacy was suddenly smelling like “bad decisions I made in HS”. Good times.

My husband works for a dental supply and tech company during Covid they sent out gallon jugs of hand sanitizer, my husband opened the jug sniffed and asked me what it reminded me of. I told him getting drunk on the 4th of July.

The strength of everclear alcohol rubbed into the pores of your skin and going directly into your blood stream, makes me wonder, how many of you walked around buzzed or even drunk, because everclear is that strong. Not to mention breathing in the alcohol vapor.

Not my story, but... My HS football team captain, our Jr yr, went to a party... Started at dusk in a field, with a bunch of other kids and a bon fire. Next thing he can recall is waking up naked, in a hospital bed, with his mom crying over him and his dad talking about giving him the belt when they get home. Everything between all that just didn't save to his memory bank. But oh, did it hurt for a few days after! That was our FB team captain. He lifted. He was a well proportioned tank! This little dude? *evil laugh* good luck, young grasshopper.

I started drinking early. My babysitter and I would go out to a local restaurant/bar and get plastered. The drinking age was 18, and his friends were the bar tenders. Everyone thought it was funny to get a little kid drunk. By the time I was 21, I was drinking 12-20 drinks a night. By 25, I was waitressing at a pool hall one day a week, but drinking for free every other night. I would start with a litter of Bacardi limon before going out, and whatever I made at the bar after my average of 14 drinks. Here's my point, with an extremely high alcohol tolerance, I wouldn't dare touch 151. I saw what it did to a red solo cup. The 151 ate the entire bottom off. I knew my liver was already bad, as was my esophagus and stomach. I wasn't looking to unalive myself. I would gladly have another 13 drinks before touching 151, which some of us used to clean the bar. I have since stopped drinking at age 30, which I planned for, and haven't looked back. I find it hilarious that these lightweights think they know what they're doing. Gen xers are the old pros, but most of us are too smart for this nonsense.

That's hilarious. I bought Everclear during the covid shortages as a stand in for the rubbing alcohol I need to sanitize my skin and insulin bottles for my injections since rubbing alcohol swabs were becoming harder to find in the stores but I would never drink that crap. Cold will mess with your tastebuds so that you can drink nastier stuff due to your tastebuds not being able to taste as much below a certain temp but it won't help with alcohol burn.

1st time got drunk was on spiked everclear punch…mixed up w/ super sweetness of canned tropical fruit punch; what could go wrong? That’s what happens when one has a cousin 2 years older in HS, likes to party; football players just slip it into punch as if nobody knew. Of course, I was totally unaware; only 14…was Halloween & parents didn’t want to be bothered about the “who, what, where, why, & when ya comin’ home?!” I don’t even remember how I got home; much less tucked into bed. Cuz had my back in that regards. My punishment came soon enough the next day; hung over, puking guts out & pounding headache w/ ever the slightest noise…was satisfaction w/ the parents. I paid my dues & didn’t do that again. Wish I could say it was the only time or worst but I would learn many lessons the hard way…how I rolled…play now & pay the consequences later. We were feral!!

I grew up on moonshine in the 80's. Which is probably why I can drink whiskey like water these days, and my liver has a restraining order against me. However, moonshine (or everclear as the yuppies want to call it) has been termed SIPPING whiskey for a reason. Personally, I prefer to marinade fruit in it over night, sip on the resulting mix, and laugh at the idiots that say "I don't want to get too drunk. I'll just eat some of the fruit.".

Until now, I guess I must’ve erased my memory of Everclear ever existing. Sophomore year of college, it was presented to me with much anticipation & trepidation of all involved. It was like invoking the devil, there was such ritual to it. I have but one memory of that day and it was me throwing up for the 1st time since an infant. I truly felt I threw up my soul. Pretty sure gasoline is kinder to the human body. This dude was not prepared, but I don’t think there is such a thing as being prepared to feel your insides react as if you’ve fed it hellfire. I rushed a Sorority in 1980 at UVM in Burlington, Vt. Our Brother House threw Serious parties: 50 kegs but they Also made a Figi Island punch in a giant trash can. Phi Gamma Delta was referred to as Figi. We A D Pi pledges were given this. I can't recall if I ever was told what else was in it ... but Everclear for sure. I just loved to dance and all of a sudden boys were looking cuter, the songs (many of which I did not like) suddenly had a great beat. Pretty lights, floating about giggling when the floor came up and hit me in the ass. Two sweet guys carried me up to a quiet bedroom and left a wastebasket and paper towels. They were absolute Gentlemen. When I awoke the next day I wondered who put sweaters on my teeth? Did someone carpet my mouth? Hydration was unknown. The Sun was blinding, the noises shockingly loud and I had 2 fears: Either I am gunna die or even worse I might not die and keep hurling long past when my body had any fluid left. Someone walked me home. Passing the cafeteria I buckled over heaving Again having smelled breakfast cooking, with the worst Headache and Tummy ache I had ever had. I was a wreck for 2 days. On the up side, I got engaged to one of the cute guys a few months later and never ever had "Mystery Punch" again. Drinking age was 18 and there were 53 bars in town or you could go Skiing. I am amazed we managed to Graduate. I told this to my College age Son. I said stick with 1 liquor like Gin, at least you know what is in it. Drink a glass of water before bed and refuse to take a dare to ever chug down something where you don't know what is in it!! Did he take my advice? LOL oh please don't be silly! He just Had to learn about Everclear the hard way! My Mom had warned me about "Punch" and mixing various typed of Alcohol. I didn't listen either. Lol Some day my son will give me a Grandbaby and as our family apples do not fall far from the tree, he or she will no doubt follow in our footsteps. I know Plato bemoaned young students drinking too much in 300 BC ... so this is just a right of passage most of us stagger through once. Everclear has nothing on what I can get. Let's just say my fam comes from the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee and leave it at that, shall we? Now that said, EC is legal in Ohio. I should know - my father is a recovering alcoholic. At his peak he was drinking a bottle a day of the stuff. He finally wised up when he got the shakes and was hallucinating when he went to the DMV. Just an hour off of it and he went crazy. Both my grandfather and my father were drunks. Grampa became a drunk when Gramma died in 2003. Dad became a drunk when grampa died in 2013. Grampa died 10 years to the day of when Gramma died. Both died just 2 days off their anniversary. Gramma died from pneumonia and grampa from a urinary tract infection. Gramma never knew what happened. Grampa realized what was going on when he tore up the toilet after "seeing snakes" crawling out of it. He died that night. He was born in 1918 and Gramma in 1920. I had my "blissful" years when I was 21 and 22. I don't actively seek out to get drunk these days. I'm about to be 47 and I'm 20 years younger than my parents. I have a lil bit of rum that I put in my coffee from time to time (a cap full at a time for a 32 oz mug) I have some bourbon that relatives make and send my way (basically keeping the tradition going). I only drink a bit of bourbon when I miss my grandfather the most. Have long island iced tea that I mixed up 26 years ago. I take a sip here and a sip there. Literally, a sip. Makes me remember playing MTG and drinking zombies. Heheheh :) Have enough alcohol to last for the next 20+ years, especially considering the rate I go through alcohol. Well, with the exception of the bourbon and the wine I make. Love making wild cherry wine. After a few years of aging it develops an almost buttery, almonds taste to it. It's exquisite. Weak stuff though, barely 5%. I don't touch dry drinks. Thanks to partial anosmia it all tastes and smells the same to me - like apple cider vinegar. Beer is the worst, it's nauseating for me. Growing up, there was no alcohol in the house, at least not for consumption. There was some (small flask) only for when we kids got scarlet fever or a bad flu. Hot totties (some call em hot toddies). And it certainly wasn't ec. It was the pure stuff straight from my relatives. To this day my parents won't say where they kept the flask, lol. -- Lil story. When I was 7 fam a reunion at my grandparents place next door. Lots of farm from Kentucky and Tennessee showed up. All the guys were out in the field shooting at targets and I was sitting near em, watching. It was a hot day and I was thirsty. I remember dad saying I should go and get something to drink when one of my great uncles put a hand on my shoulder and told me to wait. He handed me a flask and told me to take a swig. It wasn't water, I can tell you that. According to everyone present it was moonshine (that I was told afterwards). They all had a huge laugh at my reaction. Laughter done I was told "now you're a Hunt, welcome to the family". Needless to say, I was sworn to secrecy on the matter till I was an adult. No one wanted to face the wrath of my mother if she found out, lol. -

The night my cousin lost her...yeah, she had--I can't remember if it was one or two shots (no more than 3, I'm sure)-- to this day, she doesn't remember a damn thing! That scared the shit out of me! I heeded the warnings and I will not touch EC--EVER! I would rather do a repeat of a particular holiday, where another cousin told me I was doing a great Helen Keller impersonation, going around finishing everyone else's drinks, as well as my own. I don't remember this evening personally after a certain point but a helluva lot happened and this story's already long enough! But I did quit drinking for 2 years!🤯 Oddly enough, no hangover! Wasn't my 1st blackout, but it was my last--I think...🤔 Aaah, the good old days! Like I said, everything but EC!!😊

Back when I was 15 a friend and I filled a Tupperware juice glass, (remember those, with the little lids?) half Everclear, half 7up, basically shaming each other to drink it. Don't remember a lot of that night, except we got kicked out of a Pizza Hut for being to rowdy, and the most awful puke session.

Its smoother if you drink the whole bottle not warm. Mostly because you're too gone to remember or care. You will probably end up waking up drivng to pheonix hundreds of miles past it. Only once. Never again.

Since our preferred method of learning was "F around and find out", do we really want to deny the younger generations of the same learning experiences? It does seem that his learning ability is somewhat compromised, so maybe somebody should just tell him before he does irreversible damage.
