A lovely well spoken man who had around him a band that thrived on imploding and friction. Maybe that was their secret to success. Christine McVie was such an important cog in the clockwork of the band. Her input into Fleetwood Mac was a highlight.

@Jim Miller I have followed the Mac since they were the best Rhythm & blues band in Europe. Mick and John have had to reinvent themselves many times as "Fleetwood Mac". Stevie Nicks makes everything about herself (I was disappointed in her claim that “Go Your Own Way” was Lindsey’s “Dreams” and that her song was optimistic and ladylike-how is “players only love you when they’re playing” optimistic and ladylike when “shacking up” was horrible and disrespectful?) so it’s no surprise that she wouldn’t want to attend an event that honored her “best friend”. 🙄

Well, without Christine and Lindsey, FM would be the Stevie Nicks Band. And while the quality of her shows would benefit enormously from that, it wouldn't be Fleetwood Mac at all. So it's onyl logical for FM to end. And fitting, because Christine is the bandmember the others owe the most, she stabilized the band and reliably wrote the hits, the good songs on each album since she'd joined. Fom 1990 on, I saw FM every time they came to europe and I'll sherish the memories forever. The 2015 concert, when the whole venue welcomed Christine back with a roaring applause and, to her visible wonder and joy, continued to celebrate her throughout the night, will always be my favorite memory of any concert I've been to. Christine McVie joined FM back in 1968 after Peter Green asked her to be backing singer and musician. She has a lot of uncredited work with FM between 1968-1970, until she became a full-time member in 1970 and her first full album was the brilliant albums Future Games which were followed by the equally brilliant Bare Trees, Mystery To Me and Heroes Are Hard To Find albums. After Peter Green left in 1970, Mick Fleetwood said it was Christine who kept the band from falling apart and continued to be the glue that kept FM together. Christine McVie's was the glue that kept FM together for 50 years. She was the constant thru line throughout their enormous legacy. She was responsible for transitioning their sound that would catapult them into mega stardom and music history forever to become one of the greatest bands of the 21st century. She also wrote the majority of songs and their hits twice as many combined as Stevie and Lindsey. Christine McVie was beyond iconic and legendary. She was necessary for the evaluation of Rock N' Roll.

Before joining forces with Buckingham/Nicks, Christine pretty much was the "Mama Lion" who kept Fleetwood Mac going. They soldiered on, playing with other musicians(that's Mick And John McVie playing muscular rhythm behind Warren Zevon on "Werewolves of London," which required more than 30 takes to get right) and even surviving another manager using their name to have another group of musicians play shows - charging money - as "Fleetwood Mac!" She was able to welcome Stevie Nicks eagerly("Oh, good, another girl singer!"), so that the whole group was like a family by the end of their first day together. When they did the tour for their first album together, they traveled in a couple of station-wagons, and Christine made sure that their contract "riders" included good wine and lots of food - bread, fruit, olives and grapes, which would end up in coolers, in the cars, to eat and drink on the way to the next show! The whole band is a bunch of veteran musical road-warriors, and Christine was able to keep working right up to the end of her life. She knew how fortunate she was, and was truly grateful and always gracious; a class act for all to admire. God Bless 'em all.

It was hardly a case of "survival" because of some fake band doing some gigs for a few weeks to cover for them following their upset with the Bob Weston affair. Strange that you don't consider Bob Welch as the "Lion King" as he wrote by far the best songs on all five albums he made with them.

@@rolandofgilead43 Really? Perhaps there's a great deal more of us than you realise. Here in the UK, where EVERYBODY knows Christine Perfect from her Chicken Shack days, dating John McVie from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and singing Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind" put out on the Blue Horizon label in April `69. We had five national weekly music press newspapers here and streets ahead of the US in that respect and the FM were never out the news with August 68 being a bumper month with the release of Mr. Wonderful, the McVie/Perfect marriage and Danny Kirwin joining. Mrs. McVie also played keyboards on Kiln House, again uncredited. In 1969, Fleetwood Mac records outsold both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined in UK and Europe, whereas over in the US, it was Creedence Clearwater Revival who did exactly that, too. I still fail to understand quite how Bob Welch has become a very distant memory as without him there never would have been that White album, which I never thought very much of anyway.

@@rolandofgilead43 In the case of The Beatles' success in the US, they actually had to physically go there to be seen on TV for anything to happen. US record labels hated any success for foreign import records and did everything they could not to support them. Capitol did an excellent job with (and I'm being sarcastic) in not being interested in the Beatles earlier singles, hence, why thy went out initially.on mickey mouse little labels. That's the way it worked back then in that US label execs got to choose what tracks they felt were best for the markets they sold out to. Hence why Stones albums were peeled off with some black R&B covers and replaced with the hit singles - which did not appear on the UK albums, etc. Yes, we loved The Beach Boys and when you listen to these albums today, that's quite understandable. Personally, I gave Queen a miss after the mid-70's when it went one step too far with the Mercury flamboyant stuff. Genesis were indeed very successful here simply on the basis their records were brilliant. Their BBC radio sessions collection gets released early March. I cannot wait.
