That could have killed that man, it doesn't look so bad at a glance, but one of those spikes is big enough to either puncture a lung and cause a tension pneumothorax or puncture a stomach or spleen. This man would have been in deep water. Thanks for sharing this video, it shows how an "everyday" job can turn messy in the blink on an eye.

I saw a guy feed those in backward into a Chuck and duck chipper and had a 4 inch thorn go right through his wrist- and it was sticking out the other side! Now that is an accident!! This video is just everyday tree work.

If you feed palm leaves fluffy end first they chip smaller and you get more in, EXCEPT Canary Island date palms, the spikes can put you in hospital. I had a spike in a knuckle and after a year of repeated infections had to have it operated on.
