3 years of working on your land with no accidents, speaks for itself regarding your awareness of what dangers lurk around every corner. But on this occasion it was the sharp blade in the kitchen, something that we all do unfortunately. The garden at home when i was a kid was the cause of most of my accidents. Cuts, bruises and rusty nails on a regular basis. Interesting video which highlighted your preparations for fire and other emergencies with a good community spirit to stand by each other.

Good advice especially if it's an ambulance job where you maybe unable to get papers, and or think about them.

res a good tip to know. If you cant stop bleeding on a cut, use black pepper powder. Sprinkle it on the cut and it congeals the blood. Sounds silly, but trust me i know it works.

Didn't know that, had to check it tbh and a, really good tip! Will be adding it to the first aid kit. Next year we're also going to try ground Yarrow which we have growing

@TheWildlandersOffGrid We have been quite lucky so far, only two fires that have been close enough to see the smoke, but there is the Tagus between us . Hopefully the fires that are mostly in the north will be extinguished and the Bomberios can get some well earned rest. AL

I did the same thing when I was a teenager took the top of my finger making a cheese sandwich for my brother I have a nice round scar on my index finger ,hope you heal soon

Hope your thumb recovers soon. I cut a piece of my fingertip off with a commonpair of scissors the other day. Didn't need to go to the hospital but it was a mess and still have weird sensations in it.

Sounds painful too, make sure to keep it clean.... It's the sensations that feel the strangest, I'm hoping I get the feeling back in it!

Great video and advice. One thing I would add to the first aid kit is to get a pair of crutches! Less than €20 from the Farmácia. Hopping on one leg if you injured the other is hazardous off grid. Yep, I know from experience 😊

Instant ice packs are really good. Save the freezer space as they dont need kept in a freezer. You shake them or snap them (depending on which one you got) and they go ice cold in seconds

In Australia we have fire breaks around our properties on the boundary and around homesteads, might be harder to do on your property, but look into it.

@TheWildlandersOffGrid As we all age, injuries take longer to heal. Which highlights the importance of being careful on the land, avoiding any accidents. I find it difficult to stop over reaching, which I've done all my life. Now it's important not to do that any more.

Agreed in principle but with a list of too many important jobs it's very hard. We do prioritise rest and recuperation as well.... But lessons to be learned.

What you could also get is a little pump for sucking out venom. I have this for years when i go to the philippines. Luckily did not need it there. Better prepared right :-)
