⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

I love love love your new home! Noah will absolutely thrive and grow in a beautiful environment! Being close to Sara , Luca, and Lucia is the icing on the cake. What was the name of the village where yall shopped at the bottom of the hill? It was a very quaint and beautiful. We are an older couple, so flat surfaces, and no stairs, are more of what we are looking for. We may be old but we are very active, just don't want to risk falling. I know you will enjoy your new life their. Let me here from you about the village name.

Hello beans, this is Silvio. Being sicilian, let me do my best welcome to you. I realized that you, just arrived, already have felt in love with my land. I swear that warms my heart. Anyway you saw only the "iceberg pick". I mean Sicily is so plenty of places to find out, history, traditions, foods (mostly sweets, are you glutton?) nature landscaspes etcetera, that not even we sicilians know fairly. Anyway..... about one thing I'm sure: Sicily will set a place in your soul and never you'll forget it. Good luck!

Congrats! The house is lovely. My advice: 1) live there for a while before you do anything. Get to know the house, get the feel of how you move around the space, then make decisions. 2) Don't pour a lot into Noah's tiny room. It will not be long before he is to tall to play there! You will be surprised how the time will fly. I could see a soaring cathedral ceiling in your kitchen in that space, or, open it up and put your terrace there! You have the "outdoor kitchen" there already.

A thought - have you considered reversing the house? Now that the kitchen's ripped out that could be even easier. You could make the main bedroom upstairs a big airy dining kitchen - with that amazing view and the smaller bedroom a sitting area. It would mean that when you walk in tired you're immediately where you want to be to rest/eat etc. The dining room downstairs could be a main bedroom and the existing kitchen Noah's bedroom, with his own built-in play areas just above where he sleeps (you could gate the stairs whilst he's small) It has so much potential and with those views as well, Italian heaven!

Good idea. Also if they get roof top terrace approved, the main kitchen would only be one level down so from an entertaining setup it would be easier and guests wouldn’t be going thru their main bedroom. Whatever they decide, I’m excited for them and the LEAW family. Their kiddos are going to have great childhoods filled with lots of fun family memories.

Remember wooden furniture doesn't give off fumes, MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) contains formaldehyde, a chemical known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive hazards. Formaldehyde is used as a binder to hold together wood fibers in MDF production. So I prefer wood, at least where I'm sleeping or spending lots of time.

You will need that tank. Water gets cut off regularly because of drought. Im sure there is a Mondo Convenienze company there. ( Thats the name of it.) If I were you, I would move the doorways over and make a hallway to the bedrooms. Then you can make bedroom walls. The Italian people absolutely love children. We were on a bus tour, and the bus driver loved having him around because he missed his own kids.

Right you are! >> No child Ever.....just went into a room and played by themselves. Noah will want someone....in the room to play with him at all times. Not Fun.....Crawling around on your knees / or sitting on a chair. > How tall is the Ceiling? > He will soon outgrown that room anyway. A year to renovate? You have Other Priorities...like the kitchen. Average height of an Eight year old is > 50.4 Inches = (4.2 Feet) So....Five years, tops Then what? Storage room. This house is Not 'Child friendly' at all.....and all the different levels / stairs / small rooms.....will prove very tiresome. > Children / Boys... Need to play outdoors. Might want to not do to much until you spend some time there and really figure out what you want to do in the house. You will need to redo the walls of the room with wood on them when you remove it. You might change your mind on how you want the place set up once you are in it for a little while. I would consider keeping the water tank if you can it is a benefit to have a water storage. Lucky he has such wonderful, thoughtful, imaginative parents. Already having such a special childhood which he and you both deserve as a family! Good work, you two! Also, when he's older and he isn't as into having his own miniature play area, if you guys are still living there, you could make it into a hang out lounging area for you all. Like a cozy crawl space filled with cushions and it could be your video gaming/movie area, for instance. Cool house, happy for your family and so glad to come along on the journey, as always. It is heartwarming to see you get emotional (I teared up along with you, Emma) at the end of this video talking about how it just feels so right, relaxing and rejuvenating - as home should be! You're lucky to have Sara & Luca as friends and neighbours. Priceless! It's a characterful property and village, I would look into the means of spending more than six-months per year as residents. Let's face it, it's a lot more interesting than living in the south of England. It's also a lot more interesting than long-haul travel destinations which are a bit passe right now. Learning Italian would be my top priority. I wouldn't worry about making changes to the house, just live in it. Thank the maker you're not in northern Sweden. Good film!

It has EVERYTHING you guys need to make a gorgeous, cosy nest. If it's not too late, there's a lot to be done with the furniture. Like in Noa's room for example. Thefurniture there has a nice art deco feel to it. Painted white or butter yellow... it could save you from buying stuff and keep the vintage italian feel to the house. Also really love the crochet art work and others ! Great buy you guys ! 💛

I agree. Behind it could be problems in the stone walls ... or not!!! Do a test in a place where it can be put back... In France, I sanded off the gloss then painted with a product from UK called B.I.N. There may be other products that seal the varnish. Paint with a soft white. Decorate with pops of colour -= advice from Farrow & Ball. I'm so happy to have Happy Beans! Think carefully about furniture.... again, can you paint it? Wardrobes can be very desirable... and can even be stripped down to convert to book shelves. Dave mirrors for darker rooms. It''l certainly keep you fit. Much love to you all and the lovely family who have welcomed you.. Bises xxx

Congratulations! I remember this property from when Luca and Sara featured it in one of their vlogs. It has so much character and potential. I can see why you're not crazy about the wood panelling but maybe you could just paint it in a light colour to brighten up the room. If you use chalk paint, you wouldn't even need to prime it. The wood planks provide good insulation and ripping it out and replastering could be quite time consuming. I can't wait to see how the playroom turns out. Noah is going to love it!

To try to get views . But it’s a dumb move because you need watch hours to be successful on KZbin. Not so much views. They lure people in to click but people will realize and click off realizing it’s fake. Then they don’t get there watch hours .

The cladding is probably there for a reason, i.e. hiding damp etc. If it’s not hiding something ‘sinister’, then you could paint the walls as an option. Use Zinsser BIN as a primer first which will prevent bleed-through from any knots in the wood. Other cheaper primers are not as effective on knots! Trust me. So to save yourselves a lot of money, painting the boards will save you on time and labour. It will also lighten the room. Heartiest congrats on putting down some roots and embracing a new life in a beautiful part of the world. You’re going to love it! 🙌🤗

I love your beach, as well! I can't wait to bring my family, including my 16-month-old grandson, Dylan to visit his "nonna" in Italy. Thanks for the inspiration! Same TOWN even... now two of my KZbinrs. And the house is perfect... My guess that playroom will be changed soon enough as kids tend to like being where the adults hang out, but it still has TONS of potential - especially if you can change that bedroom area into a more useable space for you. Then the "play area can become your storage area.
