@StrayaTrains This was interesting. Never would I ever have imagined an X'trap being on the Sandringham line for any reason 😂 My only guess is for the Cross-City Group thing that will take place with the Sandy line, but, that's only a guess.

That’s why fully getting rid of the comengs isn’t a great idea. Because they are the only trains permitted to run network wide in revenue service.

It's because they were ordered during the split era and the neccessary work to run them was only carried out on the Hillside lines. That's never really been fully resolved bar putting them on the Cross City Group because they saturated those lines, and with them ordering x-trap 2.0's I doubt they'll be putting them anywhere else.

@@jamesd7871in short, the Sandy line was never approved for them like the Cross City group was and given the Sandy lines limited operational capacity, I doubt they want to get them approved to go on there.

Some trains on some lines have only been passed to run as empties. I believe this is the case on the Sandi Line due to infrastructure limitations

It would be so cool if X'Traps could run on the Sandringham line. Then there could be better flexability with ex-Werribee/Laverton/Williamstown services.

Why couldn't it just run the service? Ik xtraps are not allowed to but why? Seems stupid to kick everyone off the train. Why do they not just approve xtraps on that line?

I agree! I can't understand why they would bother having trains that can't run on all suburban lines or upgrade any lines that have constraints. It must really complicate scheduling. (I've still never heard if the new HCMTs have created a new standard for door positions for any future platform-screens and rolling stock, or if we've just created a new constraint on what trains can run where.)

@normandiebryant6989 I highly doubt that any other stations other than the metro tunnel will get psd's, and only hcmts will run in the metro tunnel anyway, so it seems as though it is another constraint. And I doubt that planning would consider that for future rolling stock. It would also make sense to allow all trains to run on all lines too.

Because that has a big cost to do and then maintain, and it isn't operationally needed.

@shaunclarke94 surely it wouldn't be expensive to run a few test trains to ensure safe operation. Although it may not be needed operationally, it can offer more flexibility.

@@justinwright4833 flexibility can cost money though. That's likely why they've moved away from how it used to be.
