When you learn that, he used hand mirror to watch his back not his face or hair. Since, one of his partner got kill, and he is also suppect another partner very likely gonna stab his back, like they did with his partner.

You know this explain a lot actually for the second game. Spoilers: When you talk to him in the second game as mile’s dad it takes back years ago when miles was still a child and his partner wasn’t killed yet. I was waiting for that animation to play while talking to him but it never did and now reading this comment I realize why. It’s amazing how they pay attention to details like that.

Nothing about him is as straightforward as it seems. The "cigarette" in his mouth turns out to be a lollipop, so you don't question it when he pulls out a little mirror to "admire himself" while in reality he's using it to inconspicuously scan the room. This guy is a master of misdirection.
