You can pick "any aircraft" only on Free Mission mode, but they´re restriced to something like this: Most missions (except the carrier battle, heli and bomber missions) fighters and multiroles Carrier mission (i forgot the name): Attackers only the rest are locked to helis, the gunner guy and the bombers, multiplayer you can use any aircraft (except co-op mode)

It's a Japanese game and they tend to have lots of Japanese, US planes. As expected, again no Chinese J-10 and J-20 as I guess some Japanese are still sour that their rival have better planes now than them.

Its not on PS2, its on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. If I were you, I would get the PC version as it has most of the DLC( Like the Idolm@ster aircraft) comes with it for free

PS3 / 360 - DLC, but they were removed a few years ago PC - It´s already in game with other DLCs, but you can only play with it (both console and PC version) on free mission, same goes for the PAK-FA , DLC aircrafts and the russian helicopter
