For all the people saying he messed up because he couldn't see on account of the smoke, didn't he have that to deal with when he was in KISS? I would add that the recording quality didn't sound so good to me, but Ace doesn't have a KISS-level budget for that sort of thing, so I won't rag on him for that aspect. As for the talk about a KISS tribute out there with Gene and Paul in it, think back on your KISSTORY. Gene and Paul have been KISS since day 1, Ace and Peter were hired hands from the beginning but were given more than just paychecks because even as hired hands, they help found the band and make it successful.

I have always been an kiss fan, especially an ace fan. That was the guy that made me wanna start to play guitar, a real hero for me since a was a kid. But honestly guys this perfomance sucked. I thought it was a joke at first, what happened to this man. He needs to go home and practice, thats for sure. But yes, Ace rocks! :)

FYI.... the heat from the element DOES affect the sound. We use a low temp element and the strings get hot and turn blue, not to mention you can't see a DAMN thing while it's smoking, therefore you have to do what you can - the stings are spent after that. Yes, it was sloppy, as originally posted by us, but there were factors as well.. Did you happen to notice that he had to pull the top pickup "cover" out, because it warped and hit the strings

That top pickup “cover” was clearly just a sticker covering the hole that the smoke comes out. It had a pull tab on it to make it easier to pull off. Lol

That's okay, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I wasn't actually refering to Rijssen but to this particulair Motorcross event. We saw Ace at a parking place on the freeway to Rijssen. We were getting a bite at the Burger King, and he came out with a girlfriend(?) and his Dutch chauffeur. He stepped into a blue Volvo that was parked in front of my car. We turned up his music real loud, we gave him thumbs up and he smiled at us. We were kids all over again.

Buddy, the National Anthem (Star Spangled Banner) is always open to the interpretation of the artist as "freedom of expression". The original script writing by Francis Scott Key left plenty of room in the chord structures for ad-libs. The song is based off of a tavern drinking song that had absolutely nothing to do with patriotism. Whenever you were singing it and messed up the lyrics, you took a drink, so people missed lyrics on purpose so they could drink more. Key said of it "not everyone drank from the same kind of mug" and "I saw different forms of patriotism in every pub and tavern I visited. So thus, I intended in the song."... ✌️😉

Hell, I would be nervous too, with that crazy crowd. I would be less nervous doing a normal gig lol. Sure he messed up a tad on some notes, BUT no biggy, he is Ace Freley man!!!! And must say it KISS was very cool back then... it is because of groups of the era that I now play guitar!!!!!! BTW way all of you bashing him on this performance, watch Hendrix's version. It sounds like Ace actually was doing a version similar to that. If that was the case, it's almost spot on, minus the dive bombs and siren type sounds. If this is the actual case, it could be considered a genus move. Even the effects are almost the same.

Me and a few guys used to practice in my buddy's shed, we could play a song perfectly in a heated building but out in a cold shed your hands go numb and it gets hard to play. As a guitarist, Ace is very good, and the "notes" that you believe are blown, arent, its a technique termed "crescendowing" (sp) hit a note flat and bring it to its peak with the right note, it barely works with the Star spangled banner, but I know what Ace was trying to do, and having watched it a few timesand watching the fretwork, it is apparant that is what he tried to do, he succeeded, but just not the right song to use it with,
