I have an Acer Aspire 5 (i-5) with this RAM layout. I first installed 8 GB (12 Total) and then 16 GB (20 Total). One area to check your RAM usage and speed is Windows Task Manager. It shows specifically what % of installed RAM is being used and the speed. With 12 GB RAM my PC was using 40% of available RAM. With 20 GB, only 25%. But it is running at only 2666 (instead of 3200). Glad I could help. The point is to disable the battery before removing the cover. Of course, in many cases it won't be a problem but who knows, one out of thousand cases something can go wrong.

1. Your RAM isn't running at 3200MHz. CPUz is just reporting that as the maximum speed it is compatible to work with. the actual operating speed of your ram is listed under Task Manager / Performance / Memory. Since the ram speed is set by the slowest stick, your soldered onboard ram likely is setting your operating ram speed at 2400 or 2666Mhz. 2. You don't need to push the battery reset pinhole button to do disable the battery with the laptop. Just power it off, remove the back cover, remove the bit of tape covering the battery cable connector to the motherboard, then gently push the side bumps of the battery connector toward the battery to disconnect the cable from the motherboard. Pushing the batttery reset button will cause you to have to re-calibrate the battery which is an unnecessary pain in the backside.

Hello my friend, I followed all of the instructions in this video, and I am now just waiting for my ram upgrade to arrive, but I do have the problem now that I can't figure out how to reattach the battery. I physically disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cable, but after using the sim tool on the pin hole I now have a lovely Acer Aspire 5 desktop unit, because I can't unplug the charger. Any help would be greatly appreciated

after battery reset you advised to do, my loptop wont work without charging cable inplugged into loptop. How to fix this ?

If you haven't disconnected the battery physically, then the battery reset only works until you press the power button again. Check to see if the battery was physically disconnected.

@@axelurbanski2828 yes you are right it looks like that usb external sata cable but this one flex/ribbon I just installed it a while ago, PNY S900 ssd drive claimed 480gb but it's 447gb it a slow drive cacheless just used for storage.
