I'm typing from this exact Chromebook right now and LOVE it! I bought it a bit more than a week ago and love it's screen, build quality, and battery life. It's not crazy fast, but it works with all the 1080p 60fps KZbin videos I've thrown at it, and I found a GBA emulator for it that works perfectly. It's a fantastic purchase for the $299 I spent on it.

I originally bought the 2GB 720 model, then found it was slow on swapping tabs and also 'washed out colour'. Gave it to my neighbour for online shopping and bought the 4GB 1080 version. Sweet! Fast and great colour. I'm now exporting all my 'Windows Jobs' (email, accounts) over to this chromebook. I'm even writing a new novel in Google Docs which easily matches Microsoft Word and Excel.

It's close, but I wish it used the Broadwell Celerons like the Toshiba CB2, rather than the Braswell ones which are Atoms rebranded into Celerons and far slower. Like nearly half per core. Two at twice the actual speed is always preferable to four at half the speed each.

For 90% of consumers that are not power users then this is a great alternative to a Windows laptop. The main advantages is better security, updates are easy, little goes wrong, quick boot up, faster than running Chrome on a Windows machine with much better RAM management. Also with Android apps coming to several Chromebooks in a few weeks it will mean you can run Word, Excel and other apps natively. Then it will be an easy choice over most Windows laptops in that price range. I have an i5 Dell Chromebook 13 with 8gb RAm and it flies. I am not a power user, mainly office stuff and after a few weeks finding out the best work flow it is better than a Windows laptop. Tablets killed Windows and now Chromebooks are about to kick it while it is down.

+YobixGaming yes there is a store built in but I think at the moment Chromebook may not be your best choice. If you can hold on for a month, and then the reviews of the Chromebooks running Google Play store apps will be out and you can then see how well it fits into your work flow. I think at that time it will work well, though only three Chromebooks will initially run the integration (though new made for Android Chromebooks are due for release), basically the touch screen ones. This Acer 14 or the dell 13? I'm wanting something of quality rather than cost and that's why I'm looking at these two. Build quality really, coming from a iMac that I use for work I want something for taking out the office to do email and online work that's not going to be cheap and creaky. Chromebooks look great for simple tasks, not a fan of Windows as they just seem to bog down the longer you use them.

Would you recommend this over the toshiba chromebook 2? There's a refurb for the i3 at the same price as the Acer, but the chromebook 2 has upgradable memory... Chrome so won't run steam or normal PC games unless they're on the App Store. While you can switch the os to windows, there's still some issues, and the specs are nowhere near enough to run overwatch comfortably. To do that on a laptop you'd need something in at least the $500-700 price range with a gpu at least as good as the mx150 (gt 1030 equivalent) which would run overwatch medium settings pretty comfortably. Although if your primary reason is gaming you should build a desktop, cutting some corners and with some deal finding you should be able to build one capable of playing modern AAA games med-high 1080p 60fps ish for under $400. I suggest a pentium g4560, gtx 1050/1050ti, 8gb of the cheapest ram you can find, 1-2tb hdd for the core specs. Or if you don't mind used you can get a core2quad/i5 dell prebuilt and throw in a gtx 750ti/1030/1050, with luck you can do that for sub $200 and use the rest of your budget for a cheap laptop if you need mobility.

I think there is a bug with 1080p 60 fps video - I get really stuttery video on my core i7 desktop. 4k video from youtube on my desktop runs fine.

For such a nice alloy case and HQ display this thing is just sad performance wise. Most Acers have smooth track pads. I tried the Asus small alloy ChromeBook and it had the same trackpad issue. There is no excuse for poor performing track pads anymore. But it seems trackpads on Windows and Chrome notebooks is so hit and miss. This needs to change...

The most I can get on my Asus Chromebit is 720p50fps; your 60fps video won't play at either 1080p OR 720p. Interesting. I'll fire up a low end Windows notebook tomorrow and see how Edge works with these more demanding frame rates. I thought the RK3288 in the Chromebit would handle it.
