Watching this in July of 2021, I truly appreciate the build quality (& pricing) of the Helios 300. Still, I have to think that in 2017 (i.e. when this video was made), Lenovo also came out with gaming series of notebooks (i.e. Legion series) which probably helped drive down the prices of gaming notebooks from Acer, Dell, Asus, etc.

I’m using my Helios 300 for about 1,5 year now and trust me, this is one of the best gaming laptops of them all at that price. The only thing that sucks in this laptop (and probably on most of the gaming laptops) is temperature... But obviously u can buy some cooling mats to help your laptop just a little bit but you’ll still feel some heat on your fingers while playing. (Sometimes u can even use your laptop as a stove and make some good meal, it mostly depends on the owner and how u treat your laptop)

I currently have this laptop and for a gtx 1060 its not that bad, however there are a few shortfalls for the laptop: -256 GB storage is small for serious gamers and persons who want to store heavily, but you can easily add a TB or even bigger HDD or SSD if you want. -At 6 pounds, a few might say it is too heavy, but this weight and form factor are crucial to facilitate it's advance cooling system. - Very flashy and gamer looking.. What do we expect from a gaming laptop though ? - It get's smudged easily from finger prints etc. Overall: It is an excellent pick for the money for any one who is into serious gaming, video editing, graphic design, CAD etc and is okay with it's appearance.

DAVE! Eluktronics in the US sells a Clevo laptop (N850hp6) with a GTX 1060 and a 7700 HQ for $1000 in the same shell as the Sabre 15! I just bought one, put a 120 Hz panel in it, and added another 8GB RAM and my total was $1175. Incredible deal for a power laptop with a 120 Hz screen.

This is a pretty insane price for a 1060. However, it is important to note the reputation that Acer has with their laptops. I recently bought the Aspire VX and I was playing Overwatch at 40-80 fps on low settings, turns out there was a problem with the hdd and I had to send for repair. I also went to another Store whom claimed that Acer had the most returns due to faulty components. This is from my own personal experiences with Acer, just something to consider before buying at this cheap price.

i got mines today and am commenting with it right now. Its great but the only big downside is cpu temps reach all the way to 96 Celsius and gpu 80 c. The screen brightness and color is great not sure why all the videos say its dark. The trackpad feels really weird and bad when you get it like the mouse randomly stops in the middle of the screen. I fixed it by changing sensitivity to high and changing the speed of the mouse. Now its like my mac airs trackpad. BTW, the speakers are not good. My mac speakers sound way better.

I have the i5 7300hq GTX 1060 variant of this. After 2 years its still a solid choice. Bought a NVME SSD since it only came with a slow HDD now its blazing fast. I enjoy playing with my new 144hz Predator Monitor haha. Tho if I had the budget I would get the 2019 model

It is worth it. If you buy this one, first things you gotta do if you love gaming is to download intel extreme tuning utility and undervolt, because you are gonna experience thermal issues ( I got 95 C°). Second thing that has to be done is understanding turbo boosting, have a look at how to manage ghz at different needs so you don't have to experience lag at low battery mode or playing hard games. It took me a while to understand these options, but I'm not regretting having this notebook anymore.

I thought the Acer Aspire V17 Nitro from this year was exactly what I wanted but the temps apparently sucked for alot of them except those of a few lucky people. It had a pretty decent display, keyboard, trackpad, ports, and was decently thin. If only it had good fans. I heard the battery life was pretty nice too.

watching this video on this exact laptop... I highly recommend it if some one wants a good gaming laptop. it is super fast and runs every game on high graphics with no issues... the fans can get loud sometimes when it is running some demanding games but a pair of head phones fixes that. :D

Jehuty2k10 Accs If you're a really hardcore gamer then the y720 could be seen as better due to the thunderbolt 3 port but ( and I know it will hurt you to say this), the acer is overall better imo simply for that graphics card. Also since you're asking the question, I'm assuming you're not a hardcore gamer and won't need the port. The y720 is really good at the price point too so it's not a big deal. It also has better cooling and a better battery life which will extend its life span which is a major plus.

In your Nitro 5 video you said it had bad thermals. The Predator Helios 300 has the same thermal design and while the Nitro 5 had a 1050ti, the same design is this Helios 300 is used to cool and even more powerful 1060. BIASED. You didn't even talk about thermals in this video.

Screen's not actually that bad. Especially at the price point - the HP omen's is worse, and the dell 7567 (IPS) has more brightness but worse color accuracy, so is basically on par. Really the only screens around this price that are noticeably better come with 1050's and not the ti option. Best screens seem to be the Acer V black, the MSI GL62m or the Asus GL553, but again that asus is quite a bit more (about $200) and has a 1050. After checking out pretty much every 1000 buck laptop in just about every store, I went with this one because it got to $899 on black friday, & I figured I can change the screen, but I can't change the GPU. (you can put the Asus GL553 screen in this laptop). As it is the screen isn't amazing, but it's not a deal breaker either - I can defo wait before replacing the panel, and at $900, you put a better screen in for $100, and you've got a better laptop than most any of them past $1200.

The screens not shitty its just not color accurate. Big difference a shitty display is something you find on a $100 chrome book with no IPS and a contrast ration of 10:1. The display is decent and will more than get job done.

Actually, the 17 inch version of this laptop has an improved screen with a much higher brightness and color accuracy, so if you are looking to get this laptop, I'd say the 17 inch version is worth it as you're getting everything the 15 inch version offers except with a really good 1080p IPS display with a really high brightness and good color accuracy.

I saw this thing and the Nitro 5 at $905 on Amazon (sale). Both of them were the i7-8750h, gtx 1050ti models with 256 gig ssd's. I got the Nitro 5 one day before the predator dropped down to 900 dollars too! I just decided to keep the Nitro 5 then. I'm loving it so far. A CPU undervolt helped a lot with the thermals.

Don't buy this laptop. Mine had the bottom hardisk caddy and sata cable missing so I can't install a second drive. And I am unable to get the parts! It looks like there are many victims, just check the forums online. :( Buyer beware!

Just ordered mine after looking around, the temps should be lower keeping the boost sense on, only downside might be dust cleaning like you said and screen brightness. I think the model is fine for the price point. So we'll find out this weekend.

symmetry what games do you play? Low to mid games is 1050ti while open world games and rpgs is 1060. Also 1060 is recommended for Virtual Reality systems

i play games like overwatch, dota 2, garry's mod, and occasionally gta v and rainbow six siege (mostly occasionally because i cant really play them on a fx 6300 r7 265 rig)

I've had this laptop since just after black friday, and my temps rarely get above 62C internal. After half an hour of overwatch I can feel warmth on the WASD keys, and if I touch my finger to the topcase by the screen it's quite warm, but it never gets uncomfrotable. All in all for a gaming laptop I've been quite impressed with the cooling

i have this laptop and it's an absolute monster, however be careful with the charger because if you fiddle with it too much while its on your laptop after about 6 months it will break down and stop working. What i also love about the laptop is how convenient it is to unassemble and make modifications. Unlike other laptops that are a nightmare to open just to get to the fans.

You know, I had a normal, non-gaming Acer Aspire for 4 whole years, and so far, that laptop ROCKED, even though it is a Windows 7 Home Basic, it was working so well , but the laptop fell and the screen got totally white with some black stuff on it after that fall, and lemme tell you this: Acer is pretty damn good, and I'm sure that the Predator Helios 300 is good as well
