Too bad, now that we finally get the hardware, Microsoft is turning the OS into ad-infested privacy shitshow.

Well if you're on the internet you're privacy is already a shitshow. Microsoft is just doing it publicly, even apple collects data and stuff. For Ads, yeah I can say that's totally unfair. You pay for the software and still have to watch ads Edit : guys stop attacking me, and telling me that no one should willingly give up their data. All I'm trying to say is that every company is mining data of their consumers

I picked one of these up yesterday morning from Best Buy. After fully charging it, I went a good 9 to 10 hours installing apps checking stuff out streaming gaming from Gforce now. Testing Civ6 for about 30 minutes. Short video editing (not 4k), Watching KZbin and I still had 18% at the time I was going to bed. This is exactly the product I was looking for something that’s light portable good battery life like a MacBook Air but running windows. That’s all wins before the Screen. Gorgeous.!!

Lenovo's wave of mega silent firings in early 2023 were absolutely despicable. They laid of thousands of really great people after posting record profits and bragging about moving up the Forbes list each quarter in their "All Hands" NA org sales meetings to those people that moved the needle for them. They ruined thousands of people's lives who relocated and rented or purchased new homes just to join the US sales organization during the digital boom of the pandemic and increase in business for them, forcing them to lose their homes and become homeless. Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this.

PC's could be slightly faster, but they make the room a sauna in the summer and draw 500+ watts. Adobe crashes more on Windows from my experience despite updates, fresh windows installs and up to date drivers. M1 Max barely draws any power under intensive load and I rarely ever hear it. It's insanely efficient and holds up so well after 4 years. Definitely keeping this workhorse for several more years.

I usually like Dave's videos, but I think this one is just bad. It's not even a review, it's just praise. "Game changer!" yeah, cool, windows laptops have just gotten to 4-years-ago-Apple. Webcam is as bad as any other laptop but "hey, look, aren't these AI features nobody asked for that are not really all that useful cool??" -- not even a comment about the quality and how it compares to other laptops. No mic quality. No comment on the ports, no comment on the display. No comment on this Yoga not "Yoga"-ing into a tablet -- or maybe it does, I don't know, Dave literally said nothing about it. No comment on touch screen or not, no comment on audio quality. Is this WiFi 6E? I guess, idk. "Recall was just held back while they work on it." -- not even a passing line on _why_. This video adds absolutely nothing of value aside from "Lenovo relased a new laptop and the keyboard is great". Which I guess is fine, if you're subbed to Dave as a newsletter for Lenovo... and not even a particularly good one. Not even a single word on how this laptop compares to other Copilot+ laptops. So I was at Microsoft build when they demo'd Recall. They couldn't really tell me much but I asked if I could delete like anything older than a certain date and it could not. Then I asked if I could schedule when to record like when I am using it for work and it does not have that feature. Then I had suggested that I get some kind of indicator to remind me that I am using recall. Something like a glowing bar across the top or a thin colored frame around my whole screen. I hope they build those functionalities in. I would also like to have something like nvidia shadow play where I can hit a button to remember that last few minutes or hour.

I love Lenovo keyboards; although, i don't love the backlighting. Too much light spills out from under the keycaps. When I bought my fist Mac, which is an M2 MacBook Air 15 inch, I didn't think I'd like the keyboard, but I do. Like the Lenovo, the Mac has dished keycaps, but unlike the Lenovo, the backlighting on the MacBook is so much better. The soft white but vivid lighting is adjustable with a slider, and only a small ring of light spills from under the keycaps; making the characters stand out, and it's pretty to look at in the dark.

@@Lantern__Lighter My experience. I gave it a go a couple years back and have come to that conclusion. Your original comment asked if creators have tried and that's my response. Adobe suite does not exist on the Linux platform. Resolve has several critical features unsupported. Autodesk 3D apps are notoriously difficult to get running due to dependencies compiled against various versions. I'd love to know what kind of setups your creator sources are running, particularly what they do and which software, in case I overlooked something. But for professional work Linux doesn't cut it.
@Lantern__Lighter

@@WhomAmI Linux is definitely more usable than it was a few years ago, so that experience is likely dated (could also be due to lack of experience with Linux in general). My original comment referenced creators simply because I hadn’t seen any videos showcasing Linux on this hardware yet. Adobe and Autodesk products are a bit of a disappointment for the Linux community, but there are FOSS alternatives such as Kdenlive for video editing, Gimp and Inkscape for image manipulation, and FreeCAD for 3D design. You seem to be overlooking a large portion of the population that doesn’t need to use these tools due to working in other industries. While Linux is not the answer for people forced to use specific applications for work, it definitely can fill the needs of the majority of the population.

@@Lantern__Lighter I use Linux daily but for various things unrelated to design. Though I haven't tried in 2 years for creative work, that does not mean my knowledge is outdated. Nothing major has changed for the industry I am in hence why I don't use it. By the same logic you are also overlooking what "creators" falls under. I'd argue creators especially in this day and age is synonoymous with art and design, be it stills, motion or games. Maaaybe webdev. All the tools you have described I have used except FreeCAD (which is niche, 3D design for architecture and engineering). Barring GIMP (to a degree) and Inkscape, the others don't hold up for profressional work, and I am willing to die on that hill.

Upgradeable RAM, or any other component for that matter, is being phased out for profit. Manufacturers will use this generational jump to do away with upgradeable components (they already started to do it with RAM even before ARM came into the picture). I have a M2 MBA and I can honestly say that I never have to worry about battery life when using it. It will easily last me 12 hrs doing light work. Even my M2 Max MBP (upgrading it now to M3 Max now) has decent battery life. Will last 6-7 hrs doing light work. Both are at 91% original battery capacity. Also maybe you can get better battery on MBP by limiting the display refresh to 60hz. 6-7 hrs with 120hz display is also amazing.

I noticed a significant improvement in x64 emulation when I switched my Windows Dev Kit 2023 with SQ3 / Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2 release preview. I also installed Recall following a manual process outlined in a Tom's Hardware article. It runs on any Snapdragon windows SoC that has a generation 2 NPU. The NPU in the SQ3 is gen 2 and 15 TOPS rated. It runs well with no noticeable impact on performance other than consuming up to 50GB of SSD storage.
