I'm an old Helios 300 user (2019, and bought thanks to Jarrod's advice) and man, still works!! But my workload needs a bit extra performance and looks like Acer finally did a good work... and battery life is not a thing that I care... because I have a fixed installation to work daily. Leaving aside that detail, it seems to me an ideal option to finally make the leap to windows 11.

Recently purchased a Laptop that has been a pain ,returned twice to the supplier after the keys started falling off while using. This was fixed and first time I switched it on it would not boot so returned again. Asked to change brand and decided trying one of these after a few friends who had 2023 versions had given good reports. Certainly won't be returning to Lenovo anytime soon from my experience and this laptop has after my short time with it been spot on. My first Acer and though I game mostly on the desktop I will happily return to this thread if it gives me any trouble.

i bought the acer helios 16 last year, 13th gen I9 and 4080rtx with the 250hz micro led screen. Besides predator sense being buggy with other RGB programs and my temps were high before I disabled intel turbo. It has been an amazing laptop, great build quality. I was able to pick it up on sale for 2100 on egg with retail being 2799 usd. One thing I did notice that it doesn't seem to be frequently restocked especially the 16 inch micro led version.

I bought this laptop with i9 14900HX processor with 4060 graphics. I am little concerned about the heat as the CPU tends to go to 55-70 degree Celsius while just using chrome or doing minimal task. Is this normal. How do you disable intel turbo ?

Very good performance in games is not a coincidence. The 330W power supply helps achieve this. The good thing is that it is not limited by a weak power supply. You can always use PD on the go 👌

My previous TUF laptop had a 240 W charger and the battery drained when CPU + GPU exceeded 150 W. This laptop is drawing more than that so it actually might lead to drain with a 240 W like Jarrod recommended.

The 330W power supply won't even increase the performance by 1% over a 230W one. The chasis just being big and a good thermal design is what gives it the performance

@@elderman64 Correct but it will lead to the battery draining in 3 hours while gaming if it's drawing the 170 W it is. Manufacturers never let the CPU and GPU consume the full wattage of the AC adapter. My Legion 5i Slim 2022 would have battery drain if the power went over 140 W with its 230 W so I returned it.

It's definitely not a specific model issue, just a limitation of gaming laptops. Actually there are many confugrations in bios. But you need unlock advantage settings . Press Fn+tab , then press power button . Stop pressing fn+tab after 3 seconds . Now advantage settings will unlock

@@RusyaidiDzulkifli I agree and I like how the acer icon under the screen was changed from silver to black so it blends in. Anyone try the magclick keys? I tried them and they are nice and giver faster response but they aren't usable, about one out of 10 presses doesn't register especially the W key largely because of how the fingers lay and press more at an angle on that key. I wish they worked but they are utterly useless for gaming because they aren't reliable. I verified they were correctly attached fully while trying them too. I might just try using the a and d keys only.

I think NVIDIA set the voltage limit low for the 4070, similar to the 4060 and 4050, because these GPUs are intended for thin and light laptops that have limited thermal capacity. The 4080 and 4090, on the other hand, were designed for larger laptops with better cooling capabilities. Despite this design intention, OEMs often opt to use the lower-powered 4070 in larger laptops to maximize sales, even though these systems are better suited for the more powerful 4080 and 4090. This decision is driven by profitability, as the less expensive 4070 GPUs sell more units, generating higher revenue for OEMs

I am using Core Temperature (free app) to log the temperature, and have been observing that BSOD is getting more common, sometimes even when I am not doing anything. am a photographer, using Lightroom. Even on low load, it hit 100 degrees (above 80 to 100 often), and the load is always showing below 20%. My acer Tech seems to blame it on the 3rd party ram and NVME (Samsung Evo Plus) for the crashes, seemingly saying that if all these BSOD are due to these, my Acer warranty will be void. Later when I point out that it's been running hot (show video proofs of rendering and non rendering), he tries to say there's many other users saying Lightroom is to blame, and it's mentioned often in online forums. Everything seems not to be Acer's fault -_- I got a feeling this is going to be my first and last gaming laptop from Acer. Didn't have this BSOD issue from Asus Gaming series since their 10th Gen Intel and 12th Gen. Thought I give Acer a try and it's even heavier for a smaller screen (16" at 2.9kg while Asus is only 2.2 kg at 17.3"), not to mention about Acer's monster adaptor weight 1.2 kg for 330W, which throttles the performance for overheating anyway. I hope they come up with another BIOS update soon to limit the power, I will gladly choose slightly lower performance over BSODs which throttles anyway, and it will cause so much data corruption. After 3 years warranty, will change out of it with my extended warranty as the BSOD is unsolvable. Just poor Harvey Norman who chose to take up their product for coverage.

I’m not going to lie, stock setting battery life numbers mean nothing to me. When I’m unplugged I don’t play games or run heavy apps for the most part. Just some web browser tabs and an ide. I’ve found if you set the laptop to the most effiecint mode with windows settings and the included software and then go into the advanced power plan settings and really clamp down on max CPU performance on battery that you can make massive gains in run time. I’m talking 7 hours on a 13900hx laptop with video playback and multiple tabs open. You get the CPU on running at ultrabook wattages, and sure it slows down a lot but the fans also shut off and you don’t have to worry about blowing through your battery in a couple of hours. 5:20

@ turn off the discrete graphics. Go to the advanced power plan options and reduce the maximum processor state on battery power to between 15-20%. Lower screen brightness, turn off keyboard backlight, lower refresh rate turn off vrr and overdrive, go into the most efficient preset in laptop control panel software, set the laptop to best efficiency in windows settings on battery power, Turn off hdr if it’s on, undervolt if you want.

The new 2024 model is not yet released here in the Philippines, the price will be at least P80,000 (or US$1,360) with an i5 14th gen variant with an RTX 4050 graphics card. Many customers would have the previous model to buy and its inexpensive, or add P1,000 for the RTX 4060 variant. I'm an ACER user since 2009.

It's clear for me what the NVIDIA GPU only option does, however, what is the difference between first 2? Usually I choose which GPU to use for specific games or programs both in the NVIDIA panel and in Windows 11 Graphics Settings. So Auto and Optimus would determine everything else? I don't own the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (2024) but I do own the Acer Predator Helios 16 (2023). The software for the Neo 16 might not have the issues I have on mine but if I were you I wouldn't risk it and just get a Lenovo or MSi. PredatorSense is very buggy, it barely ever works and it makes using the laptop a lot more annoying. Also the BIOS on Acer laptops is horrible and barely has any customization compared to Lenovo or MSi laptops, just because of the crappy BIOS I would avoid Acer let alone all of the other issues Acer laptops have.

In 2023 model I can change performance modes and keyboard backlight color . But it is not possible change fan speed

Hi, does the screen support HDR? I have seen many reviews but no one mentions this aspect of the screen. Legion pro supports Dolby Vision HDR as far as I know.

I also have this laptop with 4060 and i7 14700hx but I am only getting 17K multi score in cinebench r23 and 1100-1200 in single core( both were tested on performance mode). I don't know what's the reason for under performance of my CPU.i just bought this last Sunday. GPU performance is good but cpu is under performing.

We haven't had it, but have briefly had hands on with it at CES - they felt pretty similar in that regard, both were nice, just a bit of a different visual design.

Yes. That’s a close competitor and much slimmer and portable as compared to this. But I heard that it had heating issues.
