Thanks for showing how you got the back screw covers off! I grabbed a putty knife and got them off. People tend to skip that part. covers

The last word “covers” didn’t belong in my comment.

I think I'm going to give this a go. I have the 24" version of this monitor and it too stayed on for a good part of 14 years. Its twin is still running. I've done circuit board soldering in my past, so this looks pretty easy. I just need to open it up and see what's going on. It should certainly be cheaper than buying a new one. Nothing to lose here, too! Thanks for the step-by-step process you followed.

@jasonsmith387 -- Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Of course, be safe about it.

when power on, it shows the desktop only for 1 or 2 sec then stays in complete darkness, despite the power button displays power on status, what is the fault? how difficult to fix? what need to be repair? the backlight? how much would it cost? Does it worth it to repair the monitor?

@knguyen2719 -- those are all good questions. Please understand my thinking in taking on this repair: I was going to have to replace the monitor anyway -- it was worthless to me anymore. So, there was no harm in opening it up and poking around a bit. Once I was able to get it apart, the bulging capacitors were quite evident and were not that expensive. So, when you ask if it is worth it: For me, just the experience of opening the monitor and performing the repair was the primary benefit. The fact that I got a working monitor again was just a bonus. BTW: The monitor still works today. Also, recall that I am not an expert here. Your mileage may vary. But if you have a monitor that is destined for the trash, I encourage you to take all the proper cautions and give it a try.
