@@FrugalRepair my issue is from top to bottom on the right hand side of the screen, about 5 inches wide. Every so often it'll flicker black and white horizontal lines. The TCon board is built into the mainboard. Ive tried 4 new boards and 2 new PSU. If I change the ribbon cables the issue will switch from the left to the right side of the screen. 1 long and 1 short cable the problem will be on both sides. 2 short cables it only happens on the right. Its very intermittent.

I bought an LG cinema 3d TV for $50 at a thrift store. It was made in 2013. It was brought in because, although it worked OK, it had some fine horizontal lines on the left of the screen. Before purchasing it, I remembered something about the problem from a You Tube video I saw a while back (Your one!). I took a chance, brought it home, reviewed your video again, used the trial and error technique to identify the problem lines, taped 'em up and BAM, the lines are now gone! The picture is now perfect. I can enjoy my 3d movies again. Thank you so much!

Amazing!!! Really..I have a two year old IFFALCON LED TV 55inch. All of a sudden it started having horizontal moving lines. As usual I called the customer care and a service tech visited my home. I couldn't read whatever is written on the board.I tried the try and error and VOILA!! My tv is now working. There are few black lines in bottom left. I just fixed a three-year-old Vizio M558-G1 by applying the opposite logic on the image vs control lines. Vertical lines dominated the picture, and removing the TCON cables revealed the problem to be on the left-hand side. From your video, wherein you pointed out image data is vertical and control/timing data is horizontal, that told me I had an image information issue. Before then, I had no idea which pins to cover. That data limited the shorted vertical image processor to one of six on the right and I inferred that meant six control lines. Covered them all, and the picture came back immediately with a shadow in the lower left corner. I then started working one at a time, starting with line 6, then 5, and *bingo*, the picture was back with no flutter. I put it back together and it has been running perfectly for about four hours now. You just saved me $1,600 I was getting ready to plunk down on an LG G2!! ❤️

Thanks! My guess is that the problem is somewhere embedded in the panel. Maybe with the right tools you could get in there without damaging the panel. It would be tricky though. I would like to have a full schematic of the panel, that might help to pinpoint where the issue is.

@@FrugalRepair I saw some guys on YT repaired it by cutting the connection on the board it self instead of using tape. I have a Samsung I got for free a 42'' inch or so, bought a Panasonic for 60 euro's a good one and 12 euro's for the remote. I have the feeling older tv's lasted much longer than the flatscreen do, they are just a throw it away. My mom bought in the 80's a Schneider that had an ITT tube, worked for 17,5 years constantly on, many people told us, it was trash, well known brands were gone sooner than our tv set.

@@FrugalRepair I received the link, thank you! I've tried dimming the brightness as suggested but the dimmed side is dropping in brightness as well. I would expect the bright side to match the dark side when decreasing the brightness at some point IF a backlight LED was out. When the startup screen appears after a hard restart the entire screen is PERFECT for 2 seconds, then the dimmed area appears. Possible power/short issue I wonder? Any suggestions would be awesome, thank you.
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair 3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear you got the link. What you are describing sounds like there is at least one shorted LED module on the darker side. The reason you get full brightness at boot up is that the power supply ramps up the voltage all the way and then the short circuit happens to take it out some others LEDs (maybe it's localized to one of the LED strips).

Bro, this basically fixed our TV. We taped over the left-most 4 pins on the left side ribbon (looking at the back of the TV, oriented right side up). The only down side is that it seems the red LEDs are affected by this. There are horizontal wavy patterns every time a lot of red is shown on the screen (like in Netflix, for example). Either way, our TV literally randomly started showing lines and color stains, and this helped us completely get rid of those, so our TV is watchable once again. Thank you so much, dude!!!

If you use trial and error again, like you did in another of your videos, could you find which exact line or lines were causing the malfunction? Therefore, wouldn't less tape blockage boost the signal by chance? Thanks again for your content! I'm trying to fix horizontal lines on a TV given to me.
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair Жыл бұрын
Finding the exact cause can be tricky because it is likely something not visible (or accessible) inside the lcd assembly. So you need to do trial and error diagnostics from the outside (ie mess with the row signals) to try to narrow it down. The row signals are individual so there isn't a boost, per se. It's a bit complicated to explain but that's what I was hoping to do in this video, lol.

I've fixed 4 different models of LCD tv's with one simple solution. Remove the back cover of the tv, take a good can of compressed air, and blow out as much of the dust as possible. Make sure to concentrate around all the capacitors. And I'll guarantee you 80% of the time, this will fix your issue and the lines will disappear. So try this fix before contacting a repair centre, or even replacing the tv.

@@FrugalRepair I am trying to determine where to start, because it's the whole screen (literally 100%, perfectly even lines. The only anomaly is at the very bottom of the screen, there is what looks like a dotted white-blue line riiiiight where the edge of the screen meets the plastic bezel). Regarding the tape trick, and trying to tape off pins 1 by 1... How do I know which TCON ribbon to start with? I left the TV powered on, while I removed and reattached the TCON ribbon cables... And the lines were still present regardless of which I unplugged. So.... Would I need to just block them 1 by 1? That would take hours, lol. Thank you for making this wonderful video that plainly explain how a LCD monitor works. I enjoyed watching both parts. I repaired a few monitors in the past simply by replacing components without fully understanding how the monitor performed the signal processing part. I guessed my luck ran out when I got a panel displayed everything in BGR instead of RGB while appeared to be intact. Yes you can, you need to check that vcc is the same, also, if the screen has an lvds cable or ribbon cable you need to check if they are the same kind, for example there are screens that are milimetrical so they have only one ribbon cable to the tcon this cable had like 50 lvds line or more, also you need to check if the screen had the same ratio, you cant replace a 60hz screen with a 120hz screen unless you have a converter, also they need to be same size, inches are not standar for every screen, you can have two 42" screens but one can be 2 or 3 milimiter bigger. Sony is compatible with samsung and lg is with any chinese screen

Hopefully it is something really simple like a loose connection since it's a new device. I'd re-seat all of the connections starting with the ones to the main board and the screen. One time I bought returns (from a big box store) and the most expensive tv in the lot had a loose cable (after I opened it up). All I had to do was plug it back in correctly and I had basically a brand new tv that I paid very little for. Good luck!

Congratulations on the progress so far! Yes, it can be hard to see without a lot of magnification. I don’t know if this might help but you could alternatively cut the ribbon between each line and bend back each gold contact to find the one that is bad. Maybe you could take the ribbon cable to someone with a microscope and ask them to score between the contact points?

Example, which pin is STVP? And then there is the rest of the CKV lines. I’m not sure how to tell you exactly, but you should be able to see the traces grouped together, that’s a clue. Usually they are printed really close to the trace. You can also do a continuity test from a test point (if labeled) to the pin
