Any reviews coming soon? You are the best monitor reviewer on youtube hands down, i'm still waiting for a good 1440p 144hz ips monitor without panel lottery and good look (from the current ones the only one i like is the pg279q but since it has the worst qc out of these type of panels i'm not gonna risk it, i'm not gonna replace it like 4 times untill i get a good one).

This is my very first monitor. I have been gaming on tv for decades. I think it's pretty big considering how close I am to the screen. The only problem I have with this monitor is that when I change the resolution in games, it bugs out. When it does work, its blurry. 1440p looks like 1080p. It really sucks because in some games I prefer high frame rates. Some games I like 4k. But I cant change resolution sometimes.

*Update*: A few people mentioned that there is an adapter integrated to increase the space between the VESA bracket plate and the cooler the monitor - Will check it later when I'm home back from work. (No adapter included but Acer already has solved this issue with a new adapter) Please note: Before you are asking why I did not record the fan - The problem is that it would not reproduce the real volume (your volume settings, my microphone volume setting) Please note: Yes 2000$ / 2500€ is too much for a good price-performance ratio on the Acer X34 (as mentioned in the review) Please note: I get a bigger apartment (+60 square meters only for a home cinema, youtube, and gaming) So it will cost some time to organize everything. Well, I saw this monitor in person, it was on Display, and when I looked at it I just thought "Wow". The game on display was fortnite, which wasn't the best game, but the colors... man, the density of 4k at 27inch... man, the quality of the picture was hella perfect. I have to say that it blew me away. Still, I do believe that this monitor is not worth the price tag, it's just too much. However, I'm kinda exited for future releases, specially for ultrawide monitors with this picture quality.

I know this might seem like a strange question but is there a monitor that is high refresh rate so 120hz and up that has a glossy finish on the screen. Ever since seeing an imac I have had a preference for glossy displays because of how it makes the colors pop. I use my PC in a room with controlled lighting so reflections and glare is not an issue.

Lims hi! Happy New year! I own the monitor one month now and while i have a very good monitor with minimal glow, no dead pixels, no fan noise etc, i have noticed that in HDR because of the increased brightness apparently i can notice what seems to be the Led grid array in dim uniform backgrounds. It manifests like a horizontal and or vertical banding problem, although lighter and it dissapears almost completely in sdr (variable backlight on nits 200) and completely with variable backlight off. Thats also why i know that it isnt a panel uniformity problem and it is the Led array showing up when the backlight maxes out. Did you notice it when you had the monitor?

It's a sad fact that even in the year 2018, the 4K 144Hz market is still a pathetic duopoly of ACER and ASUS. We are living in an era where native 4k 120Hz HDR TVs are available at prices way lower than this monitor, yet we're still price gouged for a device that's obviously rushed out of the factory in an unfinished and unrefined state. Crazy cheap and loud fan for a monitor that costs as much as a high end quality gaming laptop? This screams rush job. At this price point they should have either incorporated a highly efficient passive cooling solution as a heat sink that doubles as a work of art or just stick in laptop style heat pipe and fans and since it'll never get anywhere near as hot as a CPU and GPU combined, run multiple fans at rpms used for idling laptops. At 27 inches and over 2000USD, it's WAY too small. Now, if someone like LG gets serious about creating a 4k high FPS ultimate monitor and uses one of their 55 inch native 4k 120Hz TV panels as the basis and modify the electronics for minimizing latency, USB C and DisplayPort support, then plug in a G-Sync module and price it similarly to the ASUS and ACER rush jobs...
@BedBug19846 жыл бұрын
There are no 4k 120hz tv's. HDMI doesn't support the bandwith. 99% of tv's are 60hz. almost all of the TV's with "higher" refresh rates are software overclocked which = artifacting and crap from hell.

@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
on 2k a tiny bit worse than my Viewsonic XG2703-GS (which btw suffers from sharpness issues and vertical scanlines) and on 1080p it only looks average (compared to a native Full HD monitor definitely worse). Not comparable to TV's
@Shizuyumi6 жыл бұрын
Do you think you could experiment trying to OC this monitor beyond 144 Hz? Does it work, or does it just fail and fallback to 144 Hz? Also, is there ANY difference between this and the ASUS equivalent? Or is it just pure frame aesthetics? On your site's post, you described the pros and cons with this monitor, but are they different with the ASUS (better or worse)?
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
I do not own the Acer anymore so I cannot try to OC. I think the difference between both is only very slight (some design aspects, presets, osd) While the uniformity (white and black), as well as the IPS glow or clouding within TN, will mostly vary between different manufacturers, it is really hard to tell even when ONLY reviewing 1 unit of both monitors. For this, we also need more feedback from buyers out there or order the Acer + Asus several times :P I think even in a 1:1 comparison it should be pretty hard to tell a difference especially because of the dimming zones

I want to thank you for making this video. It was truly educational. This week I finally bought an acer 27x and you are right, it is the truly best gaming monitor money can buy. I first made a mistake and bought the asus rog strix 4k 27, which had terrible motion blur but a decent picture if I wasn't moving at fast speeds. Then I bought a less expensive dell 2k 27inch led that had contrast issues in an MMO I was playing.... Finally I decided to spend the money and get this Acer and I must say it was even better then the video. I can't believe the contrast, the detail and with the color gamut I am seeing variations in objects in games that my other 240mhz gaming monitor couldn't render properly. From hues in sunsets to even trees that have different color leaves that I can now see clearly. FYI, I also don't have as much white glow in mine. Maybe I got lucky, but its hardly noticeable. I feel like I can do design work and game on the same monitor and that was what I really wanted at the end of the day. Thanks again! I hope you review the new LG32 Ultrafine and their latest ultrawide LG34 gsync. Do you know when/if LG might make a wide version with this latest tech? What should I get for the top quality image, game play, and color the new 3440x1440p 200 hz quantum dot VA monitors coming out in december, or the Alienware ips 3440x1440p 120hz right now. Im considering buying one of the new 4k ips hdr quantum dot displays but I don't know if it will look better than the 200hz ultra wides cause of the ips vs VA. Do you think these new 200hz va pannels will be worth waiting for. What should I get? I subscribed you make great content that actually got me interested into looking into VA pannels.
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure that the new VA should be better in terms of the image quality (but still with a worse responsiveness + color shift / gamma shift). The question is just if the new models will justify their price tags. I was a VA fan in monitors around 3 years ago but the black level is not much better compared to IPS simply because the VA Glow + the distance to the monitor/display (which does not occur in TVs because of less harsh viewing angles + distance to the screen). It is hard to tell if it will be worth to wait. We just have to hope that they will create a great native contrast ratio (min +3500:1, better +5000:1 like higher end tvs) which would be awesome with direct led dimming zones.
@niccodemarini74806 жыл бұрын
Lims Cave Thanks for the reply I think I will probably get the alienware 1440p ultra wide. Hey, you said that due to the high pixel density you will observe less motion blur. Can you explain this further? Thank you very much for those awesome reviews.

Imagine following: A moving bar from the right to the left side with pixels visible with the naked eye (for example 1 cm x 1cm squares) then the motion blur would be much more visible than on a pixel which is "only" 0.2 cm x 0.2 cm big. Due to the higher ppi, the actual "way" of the blur is smaller (I hope you understand what I mean 😂) This, however, is not considered with measuring hardware (an oscilloscope for example)

@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын

Love your vids. Just wondering why almost all of your shots are dark?
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
I am recording everything in dark because I have two stupid windows above my head and reflections look awful on camera. My camera is also not really the best for those recordings as well as my lamp setup. I am still waiting for a new Sony camera release and I am building next month my new gaming room/youtube room with a better concept
How good is the 1080p scaling? I don't like 4k as it makes text and things too small and drops my FPS in games, i like text, targets, icons GUI ect big and easy to see from a distance. Basically I want a 27 inch or bigger monitor running 1080p BUT with a high refresh rate IPS panel (for good viewing angles mainly) with low response times for FPS gaming and minimal quality control/ BLB issues. I am by no means rich but I HAVE saved up the $2,000 over the last 3 years, but is it worth it if I don't plan to play any games with HDR or use the 4k resolution (my favorite game doesn't scale the GUI so on 4k you literally cant read anything without leaning forward)? I also prefer playing in very dark room. Please advise me if you can regarding the 1080p scaling or which monitor to get/ wait for if not this one. If it was $1500 i would do it BUT for $2,000 i can literally get ThREE Acer 1440p IPS 144hz monitors which is the one i was going to buy until i heard stories of bad 1080p scaling, BLB, quality issues, and the ugly red feet stand 😝
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
Damn, forgot to talk about downscaling. When downscaling to WQHD it is only a tiny bit worse than my Viewsonic XG2703-GS (but the Viewsonic suffers from scanlines and sharpness issues) on Full HD the downscaling is good, but a native Full HD monitor still looks sharper. Unfortunately, all panels will have a blurriness on 1080p (especially WQHD monitors) and I definitely would not buy the Acer when using it on 1080p. For a 1080p panel, I simply would pick a native 1080p one with TN (for now) and wait for newer releases.

Is there a video card that can output at this resolution and refresh rate for the majority of games? Even the GTX 1080 Ti struggles to maintain 1440p/120hz. No need to even go to 4k/144hz to know it'll struggle as well, right?

Great review again Lims, this monitor seems to be fantastic and expensive! It's sad that in general, the monitor industri suffer from low quality standards (lottery). You covered the Samsung chg70 very well some time ago, and I like it for the 1440p, picture quality and the fact that it didnt have many problems. Are there any 1440p you know of, that has similar or better quality standards (less lottery), when focussing on image quality and a bit of gaming potential?

For now, no. Samsung CHG70 for VA 1440p and Viewsonic/Acer IPS for IPS 1440p. We still have to wait :)

Hello, in sdr with local dimming on (40% square) can you see some blooming from a natural pose front of the screen ? Ty for your answer !
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
even on a 10% square, it is hard to see blooming (SDR) on HDR you will see it only a little bit more (simply because the square is super bright) when covering the square on a full black screen then you, of course, will perceive the blooming clearly. Blooming is more visible in smaller details like a 5% square or thin lines for example

Does this monitor have a very light buzzing noise coming from the bottom right corner (near the blue light)? I have the Acer Predator XB27 (TN panel + 240 hz + g-sync + 27 inch 1080p) and I can hear that noise only if I put my ear right next to the blue light - otherwise it is not noticeable. Should I be worried and ask for replacement, I am afraid if this noise becomes louder?
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
Mhh hard to tell, first time I hear about this problem. I can check it later on the Acer but it is really hard to tell if this will get louder over time
@Jorozzzzz6 жыл бұрын
Ok man, If you can please check that Acer when you have time. I just really wonder if this buzzing noise is something that is defective or just normal. My first unit of the Acer Predator XB2 had this noise and I returned it and they sent me a new one but the second has also that noise but much lighter - you can barely hear it .
@LimsCave6 жыл бұрын
I do nit hear anything btw. Did you have tested to lower the audio within the OSD to 0 ?
@Jorozzzzz6 жыл бұрын
Yes I tested with volume to 0, its not that. I even tested with new cables and I plugged in every possible cable to make sure its not some grounding or idk. I read somewhere that ppl call this noise coil whine but idk. At least on my second unit its not that loud. I notice that the sound changes depending how much Hz I am using. It is lower at 60hz and gets louder at 240hz
