ACES EFI Killshot Firmware Upgrade

I'm still working on a few issues. Aces has been great at keeping me in the loop on their updates. It seems the startup issue was fixed with the 1.96 firmware update due to low startup fueling. I'm having a timing issue that hopefully we will have resolved soon.

It’s a fuel drain back problem!!! I just installed 2 anti drain back valves on each side so the kill shot stays full

It's absolutely unbelievable that GM created the TBI in the 80's, and it was and has been one of the most simplistic and reliable fuel injection systems ever made, yet Holley, FITech, etc. can't seem to make a unit that just "works." The issues that Sniper users have is terrifying, not to mention you "can't" fix it yourself like the GM TBI unit, and you are down for huge amounts of time as you send your unit back to Holley. What about people living out of the country like myself? Shipping to Holley is impossible. Do they also pay a tow bill when their unit leaves you stranded? No. It makes absolutely no sense to switch over a "reliable" carb setup, to go with something that you can't work on, is not reliable, and is outrageous in price. I would like to have FI due to living in the mountains where elevation changes can be 6000 feet within 30 minutes, which is really the only downside I have to running a carb here. However, I'll take reliability over constant and continual headaches any day. I HOPE Aces is finally a company that has made a reliable system, a rock solid ECU, and that won't constantly have injectors sticking open and flooding your engine and crankcase with gasoline!

Yeah, my buddy and I were having trouble getting the tune figured out so we reached out to Aces for help. It was a tedious process but after many back and forth calls we started getting better. In the end Aces was able to take a log from us and then send a tune that is working well.

You know after getting the kinks (tuning) worked out of it we really like it. Much better response and mileage than we were able to get with the carb before. The tuning was a nightmare though. Thankfully Aces helped remotely and got it to work right.

Hello, Do you have any updates on the Aces FI on the Fairlane? Is your friend driving the car with the Aces Killshot installed? Any feedback? Your video is one of the few that shows a complete install. Strange the company itself does not have more in-depth install videos like their competitors. I have been watching their Tech Tuesday's and IMO they are 1-2 out of 5. I like the fact that the computer is NOT on the throttle body. Computer chips and components don't like heat, vibration, and EMI. I was in Quality for a hard drive manufacture for 25 years. I did testing with heat, vibration, and EMI on spinning media and solid state drives. Sticking a computer on top of an auto engine is just asking for trouble in my opinion that is why I like Aces FI. I just wish their was more installs. Perhaps with time. Thanks Again for your help and videos!!

Yes my friend is driving the car. We had some troubles getting the tuning correct and it seems that much of that was due to the base maps connected to cam choice. He has a mild lope cam with decent duration and when choosing the "mild" setting the fuel and timing curve was way off. part of the difficulty stems from neither of us having tuning experience as well. We fought with it for a while and finally reset it (loaded stock tune) and started over with the stock cam profile. Now it's going well. Starts up good, and feels like it has more power. From the installer perspective I was happy with the customer support, included equipment and overall quality, though the manuals could be better. We plan on doing a customer review from the owners perspective after he has a few months with it to make sure there aren't other kinks in the system.

Does the touch screen have to be connected at all times for the car to run, or will it run without it hooked up?

We haven’t gotten to run smooth. We’ve had to reset multiple times and are still trying to figure it out. We were making progress for a while but seem to be running into road blocks.

How did you figure out the o2 problem I just installed the kit and the afr isn’t reading. I replaced the sensor and still nothing. Is this similar to your problem?

Ours was inconsistently reading and pegging on both ends. Tech support made the decision to send another 02 and that helped.

Ive been watching your videos and reading thru the comments on some of the issues youve had arise. After the cam setting swap and the new o2 sensor swap how are thing doing now? Would you recommend the kit now?

It's going ok. As far as recommendations my experience sure seemed like a gamble. The product is ever-changing and I don't think it was ready for launch when we got it. What seemed like too many R&D bugs. That being said the tech support was very helpful and genuinely wanted to make it right.

Hi Jason, Thank you for the video. You mentioned the startup and one can hear that you have to crank it a bit before the engine fires up. Does this happen all the time or just on the first start of the day?

Hi There. Unfortunately this has occurred more and more. Fortunately though I’ve been working with Ace’s on a solution that hopefully works. That video should be out in the coming weeks. But as an advance notice it seems there was a firmware update that comes after the one I installed to address the issue. On my setup no matter what I was doing it was over fueling on startup. If you’re experiencing this take a look at “injection PW” during cranking.

@@DrivingForwardBuilds I don't have an Aces's FI system but looking into them. One benefit of a FI system is one crank startups. If the engine is in good working order which I'm sure your engine is a FI engine should start very quickly. I assume you installed the very latest FW update and are still having startup issues. That concerns me. Hopefully you will get it worked out. Thank you!

Any update on the aces efi? Did you figure to it not firing up first turn of the key? Is the fuel pump bleeding off pressure? Maybe an in tank pump would work better.

@@Charles55mercado The fuel pump does bleed off pressure when it shuts down. It actually came with a check valve but no way to install it. When I asked Aces they said it wasn't needed and was included from the pump manufacturer. We found that on this car the "mild" cam setting was causing a bunch of issues. After lots of testing, we restarted using the "stock" cam profile tune and from there were able to dial in the running characteristics (timing and fuel). It starts up great now and my friend says it "feels" like it has more power too. Planning a long term review in a few months to update on how it's lasting.

It seemed to run fine. We only ran it for about 10 minutes though. We already had the new coil and distributor on hand.

I've been following your videos. I'm having an issue and can't get a response from Aces. Maybe, you've ran into this?? Going through learning process, car did great for about an hr. Turned it off and the handheld says "timed out and offline" . Any input would GREATLY appreciated

I never ran into a timed out scenario, but did have an instance where it said no “bin file” after trying to data log. I was able to restore the hand held by uploading the firmware from their website. I also found calling Aces was significantly faster than emailing.
