Niel Diamond is one of the best pure performers to ever take the stage!

He was one of a kind! Even back then, there was no one to compare to his voice and style. My friends and I use to drive around, pop one of his cassette tapes in and belt out the tunes along with Neil Diamond. Thanks Ace, you also are one of a kind!

A beautiful song that accompanied me through a couple of tough times in my life that I now just look back on. Even though that's a very meaningful song for me, I found myself not being able to take my eyes off of you. Watching you connect so sweetly with a song created to connect us was very touching. I've watched you grow immensely, and your beauty inside shines in your face through this song tonight. Thank you for sharing.

Probably my favorite Neil Diamond song. A very personal song about a very low time in his life. Very interesting story easily found online.

As a forever classic rock fan, I never just sat and listened to Neil Diamond. Now, I truly appreciate his talents. What a beautiful, unique and commanding voice he has. Thanks for the listen, Ace.

I'm an old dude now but I've always been a wannabe writer. When I was in my twenties I drove four hours to see Neil Diamond in Atlantic City, NJ by myself because I couldn't tell my friends, they wouldn't have "gotten it". He was amazing, sparkly shirts and all, and I still remember his "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" set (he wrote the movie soundtrack) and the laser light show that was on while he sang. Thanks Neil, you killed it. You're what I wish I was, a storyteller.

I remember reading Jonathon Livingston Seagull and Neil’s music along with the book were so great. Takes me back so many years.

You are right of singers of times before, there is something special about them, they are authentic and meaningful and you can actually feel the emotion that was intended. Neil Diamond sing beautifully live but the original track is worth a listen. ❤

That's peak Neil, IMO, from the middle of his career. At least the way I see it, he had the early phase, and this around the beginning of his middle phase in the 70s, with the 80s being his late phase. He's part of the singer songwriter era.

Another trip down memory lane. Before me and the old lady were married we went to his concert in 74. At the concert he sat down on the piano. He explained how he wrote songs. Is then proceeded to sing Longfellow Serenade. We hadn't heard it before that night. Neil Diamond wrote many songs for many artists. Even Deep Purple. That song would be Kentucky Woman. 🤠🐂

At 61 these are the songs of my youth, It warms my heart to see you get it. These artists worked years before success, no internet, years of living hand to mouth. But the training field really washed out the riff raff!

Two reasons i love this guy 1) he writes and performes great music 2) the dude brings in the ladies to his shows. Go to a neil diamond show and you will see bunches and bunches of beautiful and ADULT ladies, no teenie boppers that hit the wall 20 years ago but dont realize it.

0:38 Ace I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the line where Neil talks about rent being low in LA. Funny by today's standards for sure. However, you instead focused on the true message of the song and I commend you for that. Great review.

Love this song but not in this live version. I prefer the studio version. I was never really into live performances of songs. 😁👍

The talent, and music now, is just sub-par. You hit the nail on the head. Everyone sounds like everyone else. Autotune, is so fake and it covers up deficiencies of an artist today. Back in the old days, (50s,60s, and 70s) you had to actually have talent. I don't mean a little bit, but a lot of it to make it as a career person as a singer, musician, or actor. Today, if you have a pretty face, you can win an Oscar. It's been really cheapened from what it once was to be a professional actor or singer.

I say this so often. I’m an 80s child, but music quality was superior in the 70s. There was some excellent bands in The 80s, but to me, and maybe only me, music took a hit in The 80s. My faith in music was restored somewhat in the 90s, but the 70s rule, in my little opinion. And today music? I just can’t. Of course, Atlanta no longer has a Rock station that plays new Rock, so I don’t get to hear a lot of the newer Rock, like Disturbed, Puddle of Mud etc.

Not all but so many performers today do not write their songs and with auto tune there is no emotion in their performances. So plastic and disconnected. Very sad.
