As a youngster at the time, I learned to sing harmony by singing along with CSN&Y and their rock group predecessors (the Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, and the Hollies) when I sang in church choirs and school choruses. Few groups present the art and joy of singing like CSN&Y.

Stephen Stills is a FABULOUS guitarist. And singer. And writer.

Ace... they were close to wrapping their second album, Deja vu, to follow up on the huge hit of the 'Couch' and knew they needed a killer opening track that would grab the listener like Suite: JBE had done on the first one. Nash told Stills they needed it and Stills came up with this to record the next day. Overnight. All instruments are him (possibly the drums, as well, bongos definitely) so that's acoustic, lead x2, bass, organ vocal, harmony, production - and wrote it. Would it surprise you to know that Jimi Hendrix used to go to Stills' house to jam with HIM? And those harmonies you are loving? ALL ON ONE MIC. LIVE.

"Marrakesh Express" is a must listen by Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

"A lot of today's stuff is not like this. Not like this." Amen. Time and time again, I hear people in their 20s, 30s, 40s talk about how great the 70s music is. CSNY are the GOATS of harmonized folk rock. GREAT stuff. Keep going.

Just love that transition from acapella harmony to the spooky bluesy beat to finish out.

Classic! Thank you! I know every song on that album - I was obsessed with them. The songwriting and harmonies - amazing. Actually my love for Pentatonix is related to my early love for harmony like this - and balladeers like James Taylor. The old albums came with liner notes with the words to all of the songs, and I would sit on my bedroom floor, leaning against the bed, playing their albums over and over, singing along. Such good memories.

The syncopation between bass and drums in Question is so cool. Have always liked Carry-On but mainly because it is the gateway to Question.

You nailed it! Not computerize. Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young known to have great harmonies. Not to mention other accomplishments.

vibes sent back to the stage by the crowd would bring out the musicians best artistry and at times expand from it . Daylight Again and really most all of their works and solo works are worth a listen , especially Stephan Stills

Just a side note, Neil Young isn't on this song. It was already in the can before he joined.

For a really dark, moody, stripped-down vocal and acoustic performance by Stills solo, check out 4+ 20 from this album. It's haunting.

The other band that does fantastic harmony are the Eagles. You can't go wrong with any CSN&Y songs.

Neil plays lead in the first half. I think that sounds like Stills toward the end during "Questions". That's what I've always believed and I see another comment below indicating I was right. Anyways great song. These guys were at their best when Young joined them.

I’ll take you off the path just for a moment. There’s a little Steven Stills song called, Treetop Flyer you should react to. Now, back to this album. It’s a must own for any collection.

I call them CSN & Y too - here are some song suggestions - "Love the One You're With", "Everybody I Love You", "4 + 20", I can't remember if you did Woodstock but a live version of it is great.

Stephen Stills is smooth as silk and his vocal ability is epic. He is still on my bucket list of artists I want to see. Give a listen to his song Treetop Flyer.

As much as you are into real harmonies, you would have been great in the 70's and 60's. Thanks👍🙂. Treat Your Children Well is an awesome song by them also. Check it out.

Young was straight edge and Crosby was a junkie and Young hated him, life's to F-ing short to hate anyone, I say party down like its 1999 to quote Prince.

I heard Pentatonix' cover of Cohen's Hallelujah. It's too perfect, too clean for me. I hear they are amazing singers, but I much prefer the analogue harmonies of CS&N.

Thank you .....finally, someone else besides me who don't drool over these mushy covers. the boys can sing but it's over kill on every song they do. Helplessly Hoping is not a FIVE part harmony song man . I feel sorry for those who prefer their stuff over the original songs they try to cover. JMHO
