3 decades ago..Mahindra used to sell a product known as 'Jeep'. This product was a basic product, slow and clumsy, but was very popular in rural market. All police stations also had this 'Jeep'. Then in 1990s, Maruti introduced a new SUV. It was faster and better than the old Mahindra 'Jeep'. It was called as Jimny globally. But Maruti gave it a name of 'Jipsy', to compete with 'Jeep'. Jipsy was better than Jeep. So it was a instant hit. All police stations, army got it for themselves. But 3 decades later, the situation has reversed. Mahindra has better SUVs now. Scorpion, Thar(Jeep), give better value to its intended users.

I have 2 years old skoda slavia with 4 years service pack, maintenance cost is nill till date. Built quality , handling and safety is superb, car is fun to drive. Only downside is mileage. But we can't expect a fun to drive petrol car to give good mileage. So, I am ok with it. Skoda/VW ki gaadio ki sale kabhi bhi India main high nahi rahi. India 2.0 main pehle se kaafi jyada hai.

The reason why people dont want to purchase VW - Skoda, is because of service, repair and maintenance issues. These cars can only be serviced and repaired at authorised service centers, which are few. Parts are costly. Besides post purchase, modifications are not possible at all (cannot even upgrade the music system) otherwise warranty is nullified.
