This brings back a lot of memories :’) I rescued a lamb when I was a kid. It was just like this, and they were also rejected by their mom. We had him live in the kitchen, and I would set up chairs in a row to use as a bed, so I could sleep in there and keep him company. He would cuddle all night, he was awesome.

I raised a baby goat in an apartment with my friend and we dealt with all those situations. We took him to the stores and people LOVED it. Employees would squeal “Is that a baby gooooat?!?!” And everyone would come up to pet him in awe of his cuteness. Good times.

As someone who lives on an outside farm, we have to do this alot. Sometimes we find them early enough to give to a foster mother (ewe who had one lamb and can take more/ whos lamb passed away.) but mostly in the spring i have tiny lambs following me around! :D

Samantha one of our Texel ewes only has one working teet, so she can only have one lamb, which she had this year. Her lambs are usually very small but this one was bigger than last years, even if he has a wonky leg, he's getting stronger though. Our lambs don't usually follow us as its a working farm, not a pet one. There are a select few that may get special treatment though.. 🤣

I haven’t had a little lamb, but I had to hand raise one of my wee goats, she was too small and was rejected (I call her Pip Squeak)-and it was basically a full time job!! What impresses me the most is how all young beings fear being alone and need nurturing and guidance. Think of how many human kids are neglected and then think about this lamb. No, I am not suggesting we should care for kids and not lambs, I am suggesting we think about the importance of this stage of life and how many people did not experience such basic care, care even a sweet lamb needs to successfully grow. What far too many people don't know is with human babies, if they're not nurtured when their tiny, not touched, by a certain age they will no longer be able to bond with anyone. That's not the only recipe for a sociopath, but it's a big one. Foks who adopted little Russian babies who spent their formative weeks, months in a big orphanage, lacking enough human touch and caring, turned out to be nightmares for their adoptive parents. Not all, certainly, but too many. Even therapy doesn't help. Yet certain factions want unwanted babies to be born, to then be taken from their mothers, to live in what conditions until their adopted? There are currently 400,000 of those children in foster care! And, of course, baby critters of all kinds, including humans, without proper nurturing can get to a point where they just fail to thrive and nothing can be done to save them. To me there's more compassion in preventing suffering rather than forcing it!

I wonder what could cause a herd to reject one of their own, it seems so cruel. I get it that in the wild it could happen because of limited resources or to preserve the strength of the species by excluding the weakest members, but I didn't know these things could also happen in a farm setting. I raised an orphaned lamb myself since she was only about 15 days old. She was very very clingy and she really required a lot of attention (and milk). I had to make her customized diapers in order to be able to take her to bed with me so that we both could sleep. If she was left alone she wouldn't stop crying, but she was worth it. She is now a happy 4 years old sheep. 😊❤

Alwyn (pronounced like Alvin) is looking to start a sanctuary, which is what the patreon funds currently go towards. I once “mothered” a baby goat when I was just a kid myself. The second you put your little lambie in the kitchen to go to sleep, I heard myself say out loud, “you got no chance mate” lol. My little baby goat ended up in my bed with me on night one because I just couldn’t bear to see and hear her cry out for me. My mother had a shock in the morning when she came to wake me up and this little goat looked up at her lol. I have photos of me falling asleep on the couch a few days later and my goat right there with me with her head resting on mine. Those are very fond memories for me now. The nighttime bottle feeds were such a precious time. Thank you for all the help and love you bring to everything you do. And for sharing it with us.

The Valais Blacknose is the cutest breed of sheep out there. I first learned about the breed from Cammy on The Sheep Game channel here on KZbin after he did some work to help the farmers who owned this breed. They even bathed a ram that was going to be shown (or sold can't remember).

They are cute, we don't have any as this is a working farm. We originally bred purebred sullfolks, they're great to work with, quite intelligent. After prices started falling we got a Texel ewe.. Samantha.. She is as brutal as she looks (imagine a murderous woman in prison.. a big beefy and mean looking, that's her, she scares many people) and we have 1 Zwartble ewe left (one passed away and the others sold) they're pretty but so hard to work with.. A sullfolk, you flip it to clip and it just sits there.. A zwartble with kick you in the face repeatedly, though they're excellent mothers. Our Zwartble just had a baby this morning, he's a Zwartble x texel he's mostly black with white dots on his face and little white sideburns 🤣

This is a wonderful story. Yet again, one of those that should be made into a children’s book. Twice the age but half the size, due to being shunned by the herd. Thanks to the love and enrichment you gave, the younger one was growing fine, but lonely and needed a friend. So together the two sad sheep became their own herd. So adorbs. 😭
