The muscling on Mercurio is looking good. He looks so fit. Abdominals look strong, nice topline.

oh very cool! my instructor had me hold a weighted cube, but if you don't want to or can't afford to buy specialty stuff like that it seems like the bit would work perfectly!

I work to get all my students to this point. It can be very difficult with small arms, legs and hands, as well as when a rider isn’t yet independent in their seat. What recommendations would you give to help beginners learning to ride like this, on horses that often know that they can be less supple and get heavy or sink back on a rider with no leg, no seat, no timing and little balance yet? I cringe instructing kids to pull on a rein, but sometimes we get all the way to that command phase, and it becomes their want to make that their go to far too quickly then. I have to constantly be reminding them to start with what they want as the final soft almost undetectable cue or position, and then get stronger and more adamant as they go, but because they lack the understanding of timing, much of the time the horses that are patient enough with beginners can also be a bit unresponsive to the light aids with them. When I get on the horses to demonstrate or to do a tune up, they respond well, because I’m able to use all my natural aids at the same time, but not something a beginner automatically has.
