Same here. I read the wiki because I was curious, and I guess I underestimated a "ridiculous amount of axe swinging". Seeing them swing the axe randomly throughout the video made me think they would get the bad ending.

So apparently that was the "good" ending you got because you saw the secret cutscene. You didn't actually die to the boss, if you had looked up, you would've seen the ceiling fall on you, which is how you became a ghost, part of Spooky's army. The "bad" ending was : you beat the final boss with your axe, and then Spooky congratulates you, and it reveals that now the player is some monstrous axe man, a specimen like the others, and she sends you back into the mansion to do what the other specimens did. It's not really a hard game, it's not a complex game, but it does what it sets out to do.

29:34 In case anybody is curious this is the story of Spooky. She was mortal once, an energetic and playful little girl who loved halloween and horror stuff with a passion. However she had a problem. Because of her short little self and cute appearance nobody ever thought of her as scary. So she was always bummed when she tried to scare people and they only laughed at her and called her cute. However she tried again and again. Until one night she succeeded. She got into position to scare a man one Halloween. What she could never know is that this man was a former soldier. He was medically discharged because of paranoia and PTSD and had a hidden firearm against the orders of those who evaluated him. She jumped out and tried to scare him with the firecrackers and fake blood shown in her bag.... And then.... *BANG* The man, in a fit of panic, drew his pistol and shot her. I realize this isn't a game for everyone but I think that it is a well made and well presented game. It stands as both a love note and a parody/deconstruction to the horror genre with inspiration taken from a lot of horror properties. It isn't balls-to-the-wall scares constantly and the cutesy 2D graphics give it a rather cute edge to something meant to be scary but I also found the sound design and the monsters to be legitimately scary or at least creepy. Especially the puppet man. Fuck the puppet man. Needle slowly descending near your eyeball in his death scene. Egh. Don't wanna think about it. It's a weird game to be sure and if you like your scares to be high energy then I think it will mostly bore you. But for people who don't mind the wait it actually is fun. I honestly think Micheal was trying to take it too seriously and expected a bit much from it than what it delivered.

To be fair, this game is filler incarnate. Like 1000 rooms was excessive, especially when it takes that long to really get much for payoff as far as Spooky's backstory goes.

Yeah, they could have cut it down to 500 easily. Most are empty and are often repeats of past rooms (the open one with maze paths is most notable.)

I feel like to really get a grip with the game. You need to realize that the entire game is essentially a bunch of references to other horror games and movies. Which is a shame they didn't pick up on. The mask puppet is a reference to Legend of Zelda creepy-pastas. The guy with the scythe is a Clocktower reference, and the knife bitch is a Silent Hill reference. The fan and the phone is an obvious reference too.

All of them have horror inspiration. The Ink Monster was inspired by the Lub Glubs from Adventure time. The caterpillar monster the drops from the holes in the ceiling and the lab it escapes from is inspired by Resident Evil. The dead girl is inspired by Japanese horror movies. In the sprite files her name is "Ringu", the Japanese title of the horror movie "The Ring". Also she is specimen 4, which is considered a bad omen in Japanese culture because four is pronounced the same as the Japanese word for "Death" ("Shi"). The paper doll monster is very much a reference to the mannequin enemies of Silent Hill. The puppet and its VERY Water Temple looking rooms are inspired by the Legend of Zelda creepypasta "Ben Drowned". The advancing wall enemy looks like Gygas from Earthbound but is more likely based on the advancing wall of gore from Penumbra The Dark Plague. The Deer Demon actually is inspired by a character in the cartoon miniseries Over The Garden Wall named "The Beast". The walking alien with the mouth that opens in its stomach is inspired by the monster in the movie The Thing. The red demon is actually based off a level the developer made in the game Little Big Planet. The creepy serial killer looking guy was inspired by Clock Tower. The siren's encounter is based off of the water levels in Amnesia The Dark Descent. The only one who doesn't have a direct inspiration is the final boss. I have no idea what that is about.

a game that i have found recently was SCP secret laboratory and i have to say it would be right up their ally. yeah its a bit hard but i think they could do it if they focused. a lot of updates have been going down and i have to say the game is really intense, not to mention how awesome some of the gamers are on the US ACE servers. if Michael and gavin ever want a fun replayable game i highly recommend SCP secret laboratory.

So this is actually the Good Ending. The only way to get the good or bad endings is by the number of axe swings before the final boss fight. If its below about 20, you get the Good ending, if its over 20, you get the Bad Ending.

The number of rooms doesn't matter. There's a hidden counter based on axe swings, and that determines whether you get the good or bad ending after the boss fight.
