you are correct. The windmill rotated a full 45-90 degrees. Originally it used to be on the side of the entrance (the stairs), but after they get stuck it is on the complete opposite side, facing towards the castle.

So yeah, when Michael gets wedged in the fence when they're doing the stupid stuff with the windmill...they actually screw up and rotate the whole windmill somehow. You can tell, because the alignment in comparison to the one island Michael was looking at is completely different before than after.

Yes and no. The windmill is intended to rotate, but you rotate it by grabbing a thing on the opposite side of the fan blades, not by grabbing the fence and causing the character to be ripped apart.

At 42:19 the direction of the windmill changes, not the rotation, but the orientation of the entire building moves. It was moving anti clockwise when Michael first gets on the windmill and its arc reaches towards the small building with the log, but when Gavin messed it up it still rotated anti clockwise but the building faced a different direction.
